You said what I would say in a much better way. No franchise tag bullshit with these 4 and extend them early instead o waiting until the last minute.
I believe there’s also limitations for both the player and teams as to when they can start talking. I think it’s after the 3rd year heading into the 4th is the time when extension talks can happen from either side. From a player perspective I think the high end players are the only ones who ever want to extend early because they get their big bag quicker. Jermaine Johnson is a good example - if he has another 6-8 sack season why would he want to come back here on 3years/$45 milllion when he can probably get 4 for $75-80 on the open market? It also doesn’t always work out for the team. Didn’t we extend Marcus Williams or Darryl Roberts after like 5 good games in 2017? Same thing with JFM. I think we extended Henry Anderson pretty early to a bad contract after we traded for him and he had a couple good games too. Quincy Enunwa too? None were back breaking contracts but they add up.
I do not lose sleep over this stuff. In fact, I don't worry about it at all. I think more about my own job because that's the one that pays me. Let JD worry about Jet's contracts because that's why he gets paid the big bucks.
Both of you are right. I need to make a clarification about this losing sleep over comment I made. It is used for dramatic effect in the title. In fact, I lose sleep over due to family matters only. That said, I lost my sleep when we lost to Colts and Steelers in back to back AFC Championship games.
Not a very savy move by the Dolphins in my opinion. He already had a big ass contract and has only played ten games for them while costing them draft picks to attain.
It was definitely an eyebrow raising move. Grier doubling down on his questionable moves this off season.
Breece is probably on the outside looking in unfortunately for him. He's also one more major injury away from being a JAG. life of glass if you are a running back.
It’s a good question, but also hard to answer without knowing what will be the situation at QB. Might need room to bring in another veteran when Rodgers retires. Sauce and Wilson are must keeps and they will cost. Breece I would try to keep if possible as RBs don’t command crazy salary. JJ plays at an expensive position it might be difficult to justify another massive contract unless of course he plays his way into that. Don’t forget about AVT also, if he stays healthy he’s getting a new deal. He’s the first up.
Breece has the ability to be the best back the Jets have ever had, but you would never know it the way they have squandered his skills. They have to get a second contract out of this dude or he will go to another team and make them regret it with an insane career.
When he had his first legit game, I told my brother "We got Curtis Martin back...." Now it' doesn't look like the durability/toughness will be there (no one has had that) but the skill set may be superior. Hard to say if his skills have been squandered. He missed most of a season via injury, and has had ZERO threat at QB (and not much better in the trenches). If the stars align this guy is going to BEAST.
Some people have to point out the exact fact of things instead of enjoying the "creative license" you use to draw viewer's attention to your post. I surely HOPE they don't actually believe you lose sleep over a football team, let alone what these people are being paid and when.
Have to agree here, Byz... Hall easily has the skills to take the mantle of best RB in the league. I'm not worried about the salary either. Compared to the other positions, even McCaffrey doesn't make "all that much."
