Any looming cuts at OL that the Jets can still pick up?

  1. Of course in a perfect world your Center wins head up w/ no help and drives the defender 5 yards off the ball consistently. But we've been spoiled w/ alot of good Centers through the decades. Not all Centers are built that way nor does lacking that skill instantly make them ineffective. Just as often as having a guy head up in a 3-4 look they get 4 man lines w. naked gaps & are asked to move laterally to assist in pass pro/blitz pick up as well as reach block linebackers to create a crease in the running game.Additionally the Center is typically making the protection calls & is usually one of the top enforcers when it comes to protecting the QB w. extra curricular type stuff. Mangold pretty much does it all though if he had a weakness it would be pulling on screens/counters.

Winters has good size for a center,he is fluid in his movements which is advantageous for position(Think Kevin Mawae),he moves well laterally which bodes well for assisting on double teams,he can do all the second level blocks & as mentioned above..while not his strength he would not be overwhelmed by any monster Nose lined up right over him..something some Centers can be.

There are many starting Centers in the NFL who wouldn't survive guard in the NFL.And for many, the reason they can't survive guard is for the same reason Winters/Dozier can't. Good quick downhill athletes that just lack the right amount of balance/stoutness to cut it at guard. That's not to say either guy is a slam dunk after making the switch. Just the route I would go at this point. Cut 1, move the other & see if their level of play improves once they get the calls/snapping mechanism down.
