Any chance that Rex would accept DC and assistant HC after the season?

Not sure about McCarthy but I'll take him way over Rex. But no comparison of Rex to Payton or BB. And what's so problematic about coaching for the Jets. Is it really easier to coach The Pack and not The Jets. Personally I think all this anti Idzik talk is coming from Rex. He's an expert at working the media and getting other people to put out his spin.

Two post seasons that are beginning to get very small in the rearview mirror

So is Sean Payton a good head coach? Isnt he responsible for the Saints defense that is rated the worst in the league and has less takeaways then the Jets?

How come people arent calling for his head? Double standard.

That's right--many teams would line up for a coach who hasn't taken his teams to the playoffs or had a winning record the last three years. Hey, in 3 weeks Rex will have the jets 1-6 and on target for a 4th CONSECUTIVE non-winning/no playoff season--That is the goal of all teams, isn't it? Draft just for defense, play guys out of position, befriend all players so they don't work very hard, squander timeouts, tattoo players numbers to your body, kiss the nerdy owner's butt, name team captains who melt down in the huddle, and then brag to media about how great your (mediocre) team is--Rex's plan for continued mediocrity

His teams demonstrate an average level of performance despite consistently having a Bottom-3 QB situation in the NFL. A reasonable inference (might be correct, might be wrong) is that if he had average QB play, he could be a consistent title contender and that if he had Pro-Bowl caliber QB play, he could be a Super Bowl favorite on a yearly basis.

    tl;dr:
Rex + Geno and Sanchez = .500 record
Rex + Cutler or Alex Smith = occasional Super Bowl appearance, maybe a win
Rex + Peyton, Brady, Rogers or Brees = Super Bowl titles (plural)

He went to two AFC championship games with Mangina's players. He hasn't done shit with his own players. Rex is a DC not a HC. If you got him drunk, he would probably admit this too. He is a DC.

Yeah that makes a ton of difference..how many calls does NY sports radio get everytime the Giants lose a game calling for Coughlin's head? And he's got 2 of em.

A Superbowl win wears off about 1 year after it happens.

Point is, a Superbowl win or loss has to happen first. Everything else comes later..

Because the fukker won a SB, genius. And it's not like he missed the playoffs for 3 straight seasons either.

No way. However, Rex will make a great DC somewhere next year. I just hope Rex's replacement is an offensive minded coach - you simply don't win in the NFL with only ground-and-pound and defense anymore.

Many people, including people in the fanbase, personally don't like Rex because he's fat and boisterous. They find him embarrassing. The media is absolutely littered with people like this (who believe Rex is beneath them) and in today's society, there are tons of people that will simply parrot the conventional wisdom (ie, whatever the media or popular culture is saying) in order to be accepted and to fit in. Your point is exactly correct. Rex went to two AFC championship games with one of the worst starting QBs in the league. Payton won one Super Bowl with a HOF QB. Payton also had a massive scandal (trumped up and a terrible overreach by the league office, but still a scandal and still a year suspension). But Payton is revered and Rex is denigrated.

He wouldn't be bringing the team with his. So what's your point?

Rex isnt the best coach. But a better coach wouldn't get anything more out of this team.

    Its totally true.

We dont have to look far for proof. The Giants are proof.

A Superbowl is a 1 year joyride. Even if the Jets won a Superbowl in 2009 or 2010 our fans would speak about Rex today the same exact way.

The Giants are proof that their fanbase lives in the same zip codes as Jets fans.

Evidently you missed all the references to the two AFCCG games (losses) we get with every Rex defense. Hell, you'd think the Jets won both of those games reading some of the posts. People adore Rex because he got those back to back games. Wins no longer count, just appearances. Welcome to Jetsville.

We don't have to win anymore, we just have to be there. There really are such things as "good losses" if you're a true, real, Jets Fan.
