Any chance Ben Graham can kickoff?

Nugents kickoffs are awful. The last one really hurt us yesterday. Is a touchback too much to ask from a guy that gets paid to kick? How about one of those soccer goalies with a good boot exclusively for kickoffs? We can probably spare the roster spot.

Graham had been worked with to see if he could kick off last year. Nothing ever developed, so who knows?

I do get nervous whenever Nuge kicks toward the uprights. But he has been pretty steady the last couple weeks. The onside kick was fantastic yesterday.

As for KOs. He is terrible. Yes, he can get air under the ball, but then it only travels 40 yards. If he kicks it to the end zone, it's a line drive, and gives the returner way too much time to get his wheels moving.

I don't know what the answer is though. Place kickers are not exactly a dime-a-dozen. All we can hope for is that Westhoff continues to concentrate on him, and he matures.

Nugent was actually pretty solid prior to yesterday...

But yesterday's kicks were awful. The one after Miller's TD made Morten Anderson look like a power kicker.

To be honest I'd rather not see him do KO's as I'd rather save his leg for the punts. Either bring in a KO specialist or cut Nugent and bring in a guy that can kick a FG and KO. To be honest John Hall made me nervous but Nugent gives me heart palpatations everytime he is on the field whether it be extra points, FGs or KOs

Do we really have to go over this every single week? Kickers in the NFL DO NOT kick touchbacks often. They kick off a 1 inch tee using a brand new ball each time. Vanderidiot has not kicked a touchback in his past 100 kickoffs. I'm pretty sure everyone on this board would have begged for him last year before his playoff disaster. Now I definitely wouldn't want him on the team. Gramatica (sp?) had worse kickoffs than Nugent when kicking into the wind (the direction Nugent went in the fourth when he had his bad kickoffs). Nugent's kickoffs in the other direction were absolutely fine. A kicker is an extremely easy position to criticize because it looks easy. The fact of the matter is that it's extremely difficult and carries the second most pressure with it (aside from the qb). Nugent had an absolutely perfect onside kick. The ball took its small hops then jumped in the air...just like it's supposed to. Most kickers on typical onside kicks don't kick them that well and they don't have to disguise the fact that they are doing an onsides in those situations. Let's give the kid some freaking credit. He had a solid game and executed a perfect kick that helped us get 7 points.

Would anyone be kind enough to explain the intricacies and differences between Aussie Rules Football and Rugby? Honestly, I would not know if somebody asked me.

I don't think anyone expects touchbacks all the time, just non-line drive kicks that get past the 10 yard line. That is what is expected of a 2nd round draft pick. Yes, the onside kick was perfect, but the one time a deep kick was needed he allowed the KR to get a full running start from about 2yards deep in their own endzone to about the 12 yard line where the ball was fielded.

I really am disappointed in the kicking of Nugent. We can't blame the kid for being drafted so early in the draft last year. It's not his fault but Herm and his crew...they panicked and wasted an early pick.

Even with Nugent's off season leg strengthening routine, the kid does not have what it takes to kick outdoors in New York. Maybe in a dome, he'd be a better kicker.

This kid was highly ranked and he doesn't show any consistancy.

That is a bit like asking someone to explain the difference between American Football and soccer.

Rugby (league) is like American Football except without the padding, with 6 plays, no first down lines, no passing forward and no limitations on when and where you can kick from.

AFL (Aussie Rules) is like Soccer except you can use your hands, there are no offsides, the goals have no crossbar and the game is played on an oval. They also give a team a consolation point if they miss the main goal by a little bit.

    :up:I agree

Kickers, Jets fans either love 'em or hate 'em. There doesn't ever seem to be a middle ground. I think we suffer from kicker queasy-ness also known as "Doug Brien Syndrome" :eek:hmy:

That kick did not lack any hangtime...that's for sure. It was short due to the wind in that direction. As I said, Gramatica had the same problem in that direction. His kick's have had fine hangtime this year...some have been short. However, if you watch the rest of the teams in the league you will see it's the norm right now. The two exceptions I have seen is Josh Schoebe (who we will this week) and Orlando Mare. Both are known for their line drive kicks that go about five yards deep. The problem is when one of theirs doesn't reach the endzones. Nugent's hangtimes have been right where they are supposed to be. Graham's hangtimes on punts have been exceptional...that is for sure!

I agree with you totally in regards to either loving kickers or hating them. When I wear his jersey to the games in new york I often get beer poured on me. When I wear his jersey to Ohio State games I get beer BOUGHT for me and the keys to the sorority house. I really hope he goes on one of his good streaks so I can make it through a few games dry.

forget just the kickoffs, I think Graham should have been part of that last lateral play. Isnt that wat AFL is all about? I woulda loved to see him catch a lateral pass and then knock a colt defender on his behind.

Yah...me and the other 15,000 fans that still wear his jerseys. I suppose youd go with the extremely original ginn jersey. Since you know absolute nothing about football it would seem to fit you quite well.

Since I looked at all your posts.....and you only comment on "Nugent" and I might add very passionately....I thought there might be a "thing" between you and him...

If you are suggesting that you can punt a ball 50 yards that is actually pretty funny. And if you are going to get air under the ball the returner usually doesn't return the ball to the 35 or 40
