I agree but the way we parted ways with him makes me think he's not gonna resign. They tried to restructure his deal and they couldn't come to agreement. Now Rex is wishing him and his family the best of luck. Doesn't sound like they are bringing him back.
I don't think it matters much that they were unable to resign him. They tried to redo him but the expectation was always that he would test the market and then likely resign. But it is possible we sign someone else or his value gets bid up. I am not a fan of resigning Cro as I do not think he will age well as guys who are have better technique. Hopefully we will have some luck with Verner. Regardless we can always remember his kick return that saved the Colts playoff game. Costello tweeted it as his most memorable moment of Cro's Jet career and I think he is right. It's the first one I always think of.
I'm not sure I want him to resign either. He came off a terrible year with a nagging hip injury. He is much older than a guy like Verner and his injury could limit his ability for a while. I'd rather sign a guy for more money that's young and has more talent.
Cromartie was a great player for the Jets, especially when he stepped up after Revis went down early in 2012. Unfortunately, it looks like his best football years are behind him. The timing of this cut seems to suggest Idzik found a better option for a team building for the future. Hopefully Cromartie can find a way onto a contending team for his twilight years.
Thanks for everything Cro, he was a great Jet, but like others have said, his best years are behind him. I wouldn't mind seeing him back on a cheaper contract, or even moving him to FS. He still has that ball hawk instinct, but his play at corner greatly declined.
Cro was a great pick up by tanny an co, adding cro gave us one of the best corner back duos with Revis and we did what we envisioned, beating Peyton and Brady which he was a huge part of... He had a bad year, is 30 years old and has a huge cap number, we apparently tried restructuring but to no avail. Thank for the good times ALCROTRAZ.
CBs shouldn`t be asking what they are asking these days. Get a pass rush that constantly disrupts the QB and you can get by with average CBs. The Jets had no choice but to get rid of Revis because he thought he was worth more. Same with Cromartie. CBs just ain`t worth that kind of money. See what Tampa Bay did with "the best corner ever". Nothing. The Jets need another Sack Exchange type of defensive line. Otherwise they will need the best CBs and best LBs and best S. And thats simply asking for too much. Just get a good D-Line and all the rest will be fine. Starts at line, then LBs, then so on. Baltimore was a good example of a balanced defense for awhile. Great pass rush, which leads to a great run D, which leads to CBs getting the INTs because of poor throws from pressure and no run game.
It's going to be Verner....too much coincidence. The rather sudden report yesterday that the Jets were targeting him. Now Cromartie released and tweeting goodbye. There is probably a handshake agreement and now the Jets better hope it doesn't turn out like back in 2004 when star CB Antoine Winfield spurned a handshake agreement to go to the Vikings.........
Verner would be a good addition, if Milliner steps up along with Wilson, we could set at corner for the next 5-10 years.
Cro came a long way in his time with Rex. I remember when he first got here he was a PI machine and played 10+ yards off the ball every snap, even 3rd and inches. He came a long way and will be missed.
It's not so much a money thing. If they are able to sign him would have to be more than it would cost to re structure cro. No word on revis. He should be released as his number is obnoxious. If you think he will come back to the jets I highly doubt it. As you can tell I don't like cro release I was hoping that dirtbag Holmes would have went first
You may be right. According to a PFT from article this afternoon: http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2014/03/09/jets-are-keeping-door-open-for-cromartie-for-now/ Although the Winfield situation was a little different. It is alleged that Winfield's wife killed the deal. Winfield was actually sitting down to sign the contract when his wife objected and decided she did not want to live in NYC and Winfield backed out and said he would think about it and got on a plane to Minnesota. Hopefully Verner has a wife with better taste in cities.
What if the Jets signed both Verner and Thurmond for the #1 and #3 CB spots? I can see that happening if they really aren't comfortable with Wilson as the #3 CB.
This is a business but man is it sad seeing him go and seeing his and other teammates reactions on Twitter. He really turned his life around and was one hell of a player for this franchise. I think there is slim chance he returns but I truly am hoping he does. I would love for him to retire with this organization. He may have fifty children, but he was a class act. I'm gonna miss seeing #31 running around on defense.
We are way under and certain releases had to happen. Cro was definitely going to be released, I was just hoping he was a release and re sign. If you see the comments he made and rex Ryan has made it seems that's not even on the table. In all honesty I don't understand how the cap truly works and howthis could have been done to my liking. Allot of guys on this board do understand it. I'll scroll back and see if anyone broke it down. All I know is how he was released like this, isn't a sign of him returning
He did okay in 2012 as the number 2 behind Cromartie. My issue is that we need a proven CB in case Milliner regresses. I don't fully trust Wilson and if Milliner regresses and Wilson struggles that is a recipe for disaster.
