So there is a legal precedent to block gun purchases to what a state determines is a mentally ill person. It's just that it's only 15 states that do it. Oregon was not one of those states. As for getting mental health info from doctors and hospitals according to this article authorities can get these records. Not sure how comprehensive this is in terms of HIPPA.

I just can't stand when these atrocities happen and these ignorant gun owners defer to the 2nd amendment. A teacher of mine used to tell us that the Constitution was so shoddy because the fathers just wanted to get home and fuck their wives. Or in Jefferson's case, his slave.
By today's standards they are racist and sexist. By 18th century standards most of our forefathers were quite progressive in comparison to the other white "elites." They were alive in the 18th century. instead of bashing them based on today's standards maybe you should gain some perspective. It will help you appreciate how far we've come as a society anyway

The point is, the amendments have allowed us to change the mistakes of our forefathers. Yet the 2nd Amendment remains set in stone despite the violence caused by it.
