The concern here is that the Jets apparently did not explore what the cost would be. But to merely assume it would be a high pick is ridiculous.
Not that the public knows of. I think Idzik has built enough of a reputation to believe that a conversation simply asking the price might not make it to the media.
This source made it sound much more like his contract and the fact that the Jets have a number of "prospects" for wideout already on the roster were the factors, not that it would take a high pick, or even whether a high pick was discussed. http://www.metro.us/newyork/sports/nfl/2014/07/14/source-jets-interested-trading-andre-johnson/ I concede that does not mean we can be sure Idzik did not call the Texans. I just doubt it given what was said.
Here we go again. There is a kind of pick that is neither a high pick or a low pick. It's called a mid round pick. The point is that Houston might trade him for less than a high pick, which you assumed they would require. You dont know that. In fact we don't know that Houston will agree to a trade at all. Still the relevance remains whether the Jets should have pursued Johnson. It sounds like they decided not to, but I do not know that they did nothing to do so, concededly.
If the Texans were willing to part with AJ for a mid round pick - why isn't he traded already? How come more teams aren't interested - last time I heard there was only 4 teams. Mid-round picks for certain teams are a dime a dozen. At this juncture, I don't believe the Texans will trade him anyway.
I don't think they will trade him. Why lose a starting WR right before the season starts with no one to replace him while incurring a hefty cap hit? And Houston has no leverage to get any value when all teams have stocked their teams thru FA and the draft. He won't net anything more than a 6th IMO if that. AJ is foolish in his timing. Just another example of why he should've hired an agent. He's NOT smarter than everyone.
Going after high end guys is great if you dont have caps or the players that are great, have no self esteem & price like it. Pats get good to great players from nowhere. I think Jets are trying the same thing. We'll find out if the front office is worth a damn now... As for GeeeNooo, in for a penny - might as well see if we have anything now. Idziks little pet project. Rebuilding year... yearssss...
the Texans aren't feeling the burn of the holdout distraction yet. the asking price very well could drop add the season draws nearer.
