I don't want either personally. Jonathan Joseph 3o and costs a lot of money, and based on what his performance level the past couple years, I think the chances are that Dimitri Patterson and McDougle could both outperform him. If he gets cut, signing him later this summer is a possibility but I definitely wouldn't give up a draft pick for his bloated contract.
Keep the Browns on the radar. They have a bunch of picks and cap room and a guy like Johnson could be a great security blanket for Manziel considering Josh Gordon's status.
I liked this post specifically for the part in bold. That said; NE seems like a logical destination. They are a contending team, the O'brien Patsies connection, Patsies need for a WR, Houston's reported interest in Mallet and NE trying to keep up with Denver.
The Patriots can't afford Johnson, and to be honest they have a lot of offensive weapons. Johnson's cap # is $15.6 million, and the Patriots have $7.8 million available before they even sign their rookie deals. Johnson still has far too much guaranteed money to even consider a restructure as well. I hope that puts the Johnson to NE talk to bed, because I can tell you right now it just ain't happening. EDIT: A team trading for Johnson can restructure his deal, I just mean the kind of restructure it would take for NE to afford AJ is off the table.
He could always get to NE via the DJax route. Anywho, not sure why AJ to NE talk bothers you so much. I just thought the fit would make sense based on the reason I cited. Obviously, I didn't care enough about it to go as far as to confirm if it would work under NE's cap but good for you.
Impossible, The Texans would never cut their top WR who would incur $12 million in dead money for 2014 alone.
Well we already know the Texans want Mallet, the Patriots would of course take Johnson. I think the Texans WILL depart with Johnson because he is older and it wouldnt be the best for the new QB to lose his top receiver either after this season or next.
Refer to the above post regarding the Patriots salary cap. It is literally an impossible trade scenario.
He would have given up a first and second round pick next year for him. Johnson at best is worth a third. He's going to be 33.
his defensive counterpart. Mario Williams, went to buffalo for huge $$$$ , and has produced nothing. why the jets would want to mess up the cap for him eludes me. better to draft and pay your own guys who produce results than import a diva. this guy strikes me as another Mario Williams, except on offense.
Andre johnson is pretty low on the totem pole of divas so far as WRs go. Other than that ... the comparison to Mario Williams is stupid. I don't think trading for johnson is a good idea as it stands but your reasons are terrible.
I think an NFC contender (Packers, Giants, Seahawks, Saints) makes the most sense. The Broncos don't need a wideout, and you'd imagine he wouldn't want to have to go through Peyton Manning who just had a record shattering year.
The only one of those teams that has the cap space to make a trade for Johnson would be the Packers. I think the Packers are a reasonable landing spot, but I still think the Browns are probably the top option if Johnson really is on the trade block.
