Not calling Q slow, but, I'll take slow receivers ANY DAY over poor route-runners who also drop passes. I'll take first-down-getters over home-run-hitters every time. Chrebet? Cotchery? remember those guys? In my opinion, in general NFL talent evaluators spend too much time thinking about running speed. It is a quality you'd like to have, after you identify the player having the ability to receive the ball, run the routes, and have good instincts on the field. For good measure, I'll add blocking ability. Devin Smith and Stephen Hill are the speed guys we didn't need.
As good as Q has looked we won't know his real potential until they replace Shitzpatrick with a QB that is accurate. Throwing behind receivers, under-throwing receivers, missing wide open receivers etc. is not a way to evaluate the quality of their WR. Other than B Marshall dropping balls that were on target this year I think the overall corps has done a nice job catching what is actually thrown to them.
forte is a lot like martin. he isn't the strongest or fastest but he's smart, patient, has great vision and feet and is a smart reliable veteran.
Forte is Certainly effective on the goal line. 7 touchdowns on the season. Curtis is way better, but I agree Forte has the patience and I think he makes a lot more out of nothing. 4yds - 5yds out of nothing. Good feet, falls forward, protects the football. Has the vision too, just lacks the 3rd or 4th gear in open field. We got to try to get him outside the tackles more. But it seems Gailey uses forte for inside tackle work and Powell for outside tackles. Our offense is built more for a run and play action pass, under center, single back or with a full back. Sadly we don't have a tight end passing threat, so teams know when the tight end comes in we are running the ball. Fitz simply doesn't have the arm to be constantly running these spread formations with no one in the backfield. Gailey thinks he has Matt Ryan I guess...? Powell is a stud though and we need to get him the ball more. Nice 1-2 punch
We saw what he can do with a live arm, 15 yard hitch route turns into a 69 yd td when the ball is where it should be when it should be.
I'd say let Powell get more touches, it's about getting the best guys on the field and Powell needs to get more burn, plus it will save Forte anyway...nothing wrong with giving Forte 20-23 carries and Powell 10-14...
It's fair to say that the future at WR is here with Enuwma, Anderson and Peake... I really like Peake's build...you develop him and Anderson and you have a stud core for Hack or Petty to get chemistry with...
And the award for moronic spelling errors in thread titles goes to... The guy who believes in lizard people.
Yessir. I will say though, that for some odd reason I thought Devin Smith was going to be the exception. I think wide receiver was the correct pick at the time but man it hurts seeing the following players selected after him looking like studs at positions of need... ILB Eric Kendricks ILB Denzel Perryman CB Ronald Darby RB Tevin Coleman It seems like we're never all too forward thinking with our drafting. Devin Smith missed draft pick is looking to be covered up by one of Idzik's only good pick in Enunwa, and the finds in Peake and Anderson. Nonetheless, wide receiver could prove to be a bright spot on a shitty offense especially if one of the young quarterbacks can get them the ball. With these young guns in place, and a successful overhaul of the offensive line, our offense may not be in that terrible of a spot.
I will enjoy seeing Enunwa and Smith on the outside with Decker in the slot once we get a real QB with both a brain and an arm. They might be retired by then, though.....
Here is a though. After we cut the shit out of Revis contract this year and transfer most of that money to lock Q. Then we rid of Fitz in the same off season and watch how the youngsters flourish under a QB with an arm. Marshall still has enough in the tank and smarter than hell. His ability to block, and recover the ball or cause the fumble after a shit interception or fumble by our guys is precious.
Offenses are rarely better than their 3rd WR. It's not terribly difficult to shut down a Megatron or a Marshall. Or even a Marshall and a Decker. There's a reason Marshall has never been to the playoffs. But throw in a Quincy as your 3rd and now you got something VERY difficult to shut down. Add a good RB and your offense becomes almost unstoppable.
Uh what? There's a reason why the Antonio Brown's and Julio Jones' of the world still end up with 1,800+ receiving yards and over 100 catches despite facing double and triple teams all season long. So to say it's not terribly difficult to shut them down is a pretty ignorant statement.
Great question. I'm more than willing to give Bryce a shot. We quickly need to find out if he has it or not. Fitz is done in my view. Revis is rapidly approaching a point of becoming a liability, granted I don't have the replacement answer for you. Yet I seem to recall that most Jet fans would revolt at the though of drafting a CB or any D player with the first and second round. Unfortunately here we are once again in deep shit with the secondary and no answer at QB.
