I'm starting to think AZ is going to trade out of the first pick with Oakland. The Jets are going to be in great position to get an elite Defender or trade down. This draft seems really deep with good defenders in the 2nd round. If we can get a haul of picks for Bosa or Q trade way down.
You are probably right that there will be a lot of good defenders in the 2nd round, but we won't be taking one. If we get a 2nd round pick it will be used to take a center, or at least it better be.
There's only a couple of centers in this draft worth an early 2. Depends what we get. No point in reaching.
What makes you think that? All evidence points to Cards taking Murray themselves. Either way doesn’t really matter for the Jets, as long as Murray goes 1 Jets will be in a great spot. I’m still with a trade down as my top priority. I want a high second to be in position to pounce on one of the WRs that drop out of 1st.
rumor has it they are dead set on murray and will look to trade rosen to a QB needy team (oak, wash, NYG) Would be best for us if they trade to wash as that means the giants could be looking to jump oakland for a QB plus denver is in the mix too. after murray goes 1st overall that leaves haskins and lock as the only 2 "top QBs" left in the draft and at least 3 teams will be looking hard at them and possibly wanting to move up. it would be awesome for us if Oakland wanted to trade with us and gave us their 2nd rounder to swap 1st round picks so they don't get jumped and take a QB (likely haskins) and we still get to land either allen or bosa (depending who SF takes 2nd overall but at least 1 of them will be there) and we get a 2nd rounder
Center? Isnt that the position where if your QB is in shotgun and you want a snap that doesnt sail over his head?? I think we all had nightmares watching that unfold during games last year..If Gase wants the guard to "slide over" and play center he better know what hes doing or else we are in big trouble Perhaps Mac didn't pursue Paridis because this is coming from Gase's scheme for OL? Get the trade down, grab Burns as your Edge rusher or Allen if you are extremely lucky, and make sure you have secured the OL with a center in Rnd 2 sounds like a plan Its April!....T Minus 3 weeks and 2 days till D Day
He had broken fingers, not a lack of talent, how is that still not sinking in? Blame Bowles who kept picking an injured player. Absolutely infuriating.
What evidence? I still haven't seen any direct evidence that the Cards will take Murray, just rumors on top of rumors. They haven't even said they are willing to trade Rosen yet. Don't get me wrong, I REALLY want it to happen but I'm convinced AZ wants to trade out and is putting out Murray rumors to try to increase the value of the pick. Arizona needs all the draft picks they can get and this is prime time for smoke screens.
yeah i have no idea why we stuck with him so long after the injury when it was clear he coudn't snap the ball. probably cost us a game or 2 which right now is actually a good thing cause better draft pick and we weren't making the playoffs anyway but still
it's obviously all rumors at this point but most of the time these rumors tend to be pretty true and i hope they do as it would greatly benefit the jets. they also don't have to trade rosen either. they could do a brees/rivers like situation and let them battle it out and tarde the loser later on after a season or 2. good Qbs will always have high trade value
I don't think it would be reaching, but even if it is, I disagree. The Jets have to get one of Bradbury, McCoy or Jenkins. I don't think there's another C in the draft that's capable of starting in the NFL, and certainly not day one.
Basically I feel as strongly about the Cards not taking Murray as I did about the Giants taking Saquan Barkley last year. Practically every analyst and rumor said the Giants would not pass on Darnold for Barkley, but to me it didn't make any sense for the team based on their needs and weaknesses. The Cards giving up on Rosen after trading up for him last year or causing a QB controversy does not make sense to me when the team should be drafting the best available players to put around Rosen to develop him instead of back to back years with 1st round QBs. Sure, you can trade one later, but you lose value and miss on a game changer like Bosa for what would be a 2nd round pick or late first at best. I hope I'm wrong, I just don't think it makes sense for Arizona unless they get overpaid big time by a QB desperate team trading for Rosen.
i had a feeling they would take barkley but again it's all guessing. gettleman loves taking RBs high (drafted mccafrey in carolina) and also loves to draft skill position players early (not that barkley was early) he was the BPA in the draft and according to most the best player in the draft period and considered a 0% chance to be a bust. also the cards have a new regime. new coach, new offensive scheme and kingsbury loves him. it's odd for sure, but makes sense all things considered and they can move rosen for a 1st rounder as well
This is where you lose me,my friend. Whether they are worth a 2nd rounder is debatable but you don't force a pick based on need when the team already has a void of talent. Why force a pick just b.c a guy can start for one season when the next draft is overflowing w. premium OL talent? Can't lose sight of the long term view. Harrison may not be great but I'd rather he start than the team reach on a Center just to plug a hole when they could take a far superior talent at another position..presumably one of need. That said..I do agree the 2nd round selection should be on offense. Depending on the team's big board WR/OL/RB/TE should be the selection. There's alot of talent with 2nd round value in this class.
Isn't next year's draft supposed to be weak at C? I'd rather grab one this year in round 3 and not have to worry about it next year when the focus can be on OT, WR, and RB. I'm not convinced that Harrison can be even average over a full season.
I haven't looked at centers specifically.very rarely do we see Highly regarded Center prospects before their senior season...or at least junior. They usually get moved to a different position on OL if they're that good. But...I see our current situation as bigger than just center..rather OL in general. We'll see a few Centers raise up the draft boards regardless. Let me also clarify that i don't have an issue addressing center b.c it is a major need..but I want it to be a pick of value rather than a reach. I don't wanna take a center solely to avoid starting Harrison for one season. I want someone who can be a long term fixture, who isn't just Plug N play but can continue to get better. There's no guarantee that a center we draft is going to be ready to start or be better than Harrison right off the bat. Imagine if we reached on a guy who projects as average & doesn't even replace Harrison year 1. It's possible & would be very bad.
Well, no one said that we always have to agree, my friend. IMO you do have to force a pick when you don't have a credible starter at a position and certainly no depth if your depth player is the starter. It's particularly important at C and on the OL because otherwise, Sam could wind up seriously injured. How would you like to see Sam wind up with a torn rotator cuff in his throwing shoulder because Mac refused to sign a FA C and then failed to draft one, and some opposing DL or blitzer came right up the middle, creamed Sam and he got seriously injured? It is my understanding that there is great OT and OG talent in the 2020 draft, but I've heard nothing about it being a very good draft for Cs in the 2020 draft. In fact one poster has stated that it won't be a good draft for centers and that we had better draft a center this year. Is that not accurate? I haven't read any reports on the 2020 draft that even mentioned the center class, and haven't looked at a listing of the top prospects, only the top OT prospects. Even if there is great C talent in the 2020 draft, are you really willing to risk Sam's health and the offense struggling for this season because Mac didn't sign or draft a C? It would be one thing if Mac had signed Morse or even Sullivan, but he didn't. I don't care if it's an all-time reach, imo the Jets have to draft the best C they can in the upcoming draft. There are questions even with Sullivan. I see no way the team should take a RB in the 2nd round. Not with Bell being here and not with next year's draft being loaded with great RB talent. The only two positions other than C that I could see the Jets reasonably drafting in the 2nd round are WR and CB.
It could very well be that the GM and head coach have different positions and are putting out rumors as a way to lobby the owners son who runs the team.
It's all in the context. Are we taking a center solely to avoid starting Harrison for 1 season or are they a quality prospect worthy of the given draft slot w. ability to get better long term? Because I don't believe in drafting for the short term..esp on day 2.You simply don't make panic picks for the short term. The other thing to keep in mind is if we reach..there's always a chance that the center isn't ready to start anyway & loses the job to Harrison. Maybe they struggle with the playbook, technique, struggle with conditioning, need to get stronger..who knows...How would that pick look from a wider lens if they are only a marginal player & didn't even provide the role originally intended? As for 2020, I see it as the true opportunity to upgrade the entire OL unit, not just center.Centers very rarely are highly regarded as prospects more than a year out. Usually blue chip Centers who are underclassmen get moved to either Tackle or guard. Sometimes guard prospects will slide back to Center at the pro level if that's their best fit,This center class was supposed to be extremely weak before Bradbury & Mccoy came out of nowhere. It's always a position of late risers.I'd venture to say there will be well regarded center prospects in 2020 who may slide through the cracks due to the strength of other positions along the OL.
