Alright I didn't want to announce it like this but here it goes... I'm taking the job guys. Bowles called me up last night said he was impressed with my record in Madden 2007. I'll make you guys proud. Wish me luck!
Can you beat Petty tho? That was a great Madden by the way. NFL 2k5 is still the best football video game ever made. Was only $20 too.
O'Brien had a golden setup in Houston and blew it. He was the QB guru who had everything else going for him but in the end he couldn't find a QB in 3 drafts (Savage only QB selected), 3 free agent signings (Fitzpatrick, Hoyer, Osweiler) and a trade (Mallet). He went 9-7 3 straight years in the weakest division in the AFC and made the playoffs twice competing with the short bus crew. Can't find a QB for his life? CHECK. 9-7 with a roster that says 11 wins? CHECK. Overly dependent on the defense? CHECK. Sounds like a perfect fit for Same Old Jets.
Same Old Jets was letting Gailey be the scapegoat and making him retire. Fans here started treating him as if he was Brian Schottenheimer.
The OC is always the scapegoat. The position comes with a black hood over the head and the hangman standing a respectful two steps back. That's true almost everywhere in the NFL - except for the top 5 teams or so, whose OC's tend to get hired as HC's after a few years and for the teams who have a real franchise QB. If you find the QB the OC can stick around for awhile. If you don't he's going to be toast fairly quickly.
It's amazing, went from breaking crappy Jet records in great fashion to being on the street the next year because a QB couldn't hit the broadside of a barn and complained about his contract. The system worked fine, the play-calling needed help, but that's not the reason to fire someone. I think Gailey was the smartest coach last year, or the last 2. Didn't give 2 craps about Fitzpatrick and didn't like the idea of 4 QBs on the roster. Now you are going to let 2 of your young QBs learn 2 systems in 2 years. Looking forward to seeing our receivers run 5 yard curl routes again.
Texans just fired their OC named George Godsey. He and O'Brien go back some time and he was a big supporter of Hackenberg. He actually pushed O'Brien to recruit Hack for PSU. It almost seems like a no brainer that he may be brought in due to his experience as an OC, and also his past relationship with Hackenberg. All of this is dependent on whether Jets are serious about giving Hack a legitimate shot at developing. Godsey, all though not my favorite candidate, instantly jumps out because of the Hack ties. Furthermore, Maccagnan may suggest Bowles set up an interview because Macc was on the Texans staff, seems like a natural fit IMO.
Perhaps, apparently the split was mutual, which is always interesting because we don't really know what happened behind the scenes.
Scapegoat. Break the glass and pull the switch. Who signed Fitzpatrick at the last moment and why? It's enough to make your Dick Curl.
Yes, Gailey was the best coach in the building the last 2 years. Unless we bring in a home run hire we're going to miss his presence next season.
Since there won't be a QB worth taking at 6(or 7 now?) I have to hope Fournette is still there but we will probably take a LG instead..it's the Jets way. Too high probably at six so we will trade back and then have somebody else take him in front of us.
I think it's highley unlikely that we get a legitimate OC candidate right now Everyone on this board thinks that Bowles is toast after next season Everyone in the league thinks that Bowles is toast after next season I would almos question the judgment of anyone who comes here now under these circumstances
why? come here on a 2 year deal, worst case scenario you are collecting the 2nd year $ somewhere else. best case scenario you make a real name for yourself if you prove to be successful here
