The thought is that Pederson calls the plays and wants to move DiFilippo up to OC so he has a buffer. That keeps the mistakes from piling up at his doorstep.
I never said he didn't call the plays what I'm saying is DeFillipo won't just be an OC by title he'd have a ton of input over the offense. Rogers runs our defensive meetings and game plane with Bowles but Bowles calls the plays.
I agree DeFilippo will be involved with the offense in Philly, but here, he would be completely on his own, as we don't currently have any offensive coaches as far as I know.
It's not very often that I disagree with you, Red, but I do this time. I don't think the OL is in nearly as good a shape as you do. Carpenter was their best OL last season and I think he's only a little above average. Mangold's best days are behind him, and I seriously doubt if he can stay healthy. He may be back at a reduced rate, but he absolutely should not be back for $9 million, and I wish he'd just go ahead and retire so the Jets didn't have to release him. Winters is serviceable, he may be a little above average. Shell, I'd rate about the same as Winters, but maybe lower. I think the OL is in definite need of upgrade. I agree that ASJ should be back, but he's had a hard time staying healthy and on the field this season. The Jets need to sign a TE in FA that is a good blocker and solid receiver. Unless they really like one of the two young TEs on the roster, they probably should draft one as well. IMO B. Marshall should be traded if they can, or released. Decker should be back, if he's healthy. If not, I'd be content to go with Enunwa, Peake, Anderson, D. Smith, J. Marshall and a FA or draft pick. I think that even with a good FA and draft, the Jets are not going to succeed next year, if by "succeed" you mean win 8 or more games. I just don't see that happening, unless the new OC and QB Coach are able to work miracles with Petty or Hack. I'd be perfectly happy if they won 5 games or less next season if the team shows progress. By progress, I mean that the team shows up looking prepared each and every week, plays hard, smart, and tough, doesn't beat itself with mental errors and stupid penalties, and the young players show that they're developing and improving. We agree that more than likely this won't happen on Bowles' watch, but if the new OC could get the offensive side of things going that would be a good start, especially if Bowles was then fired and replaced by an experienced HC from the offensive side who brings in a good DC to run the D.
You make some good points, I however think Mangold will be back in a restructure deal, I don't see anyone giving him big money. I'm basing my hopes on what this oline did when it had Clady, Carpenter, Mangold, Winters and Ijalana. They did a good job giving Fitz time and they probably would have done a good job run blocking if Gailey committed himself to running the ball. Fitz was the weak link. I think with a good FA to take up the LT spot, they can do well if the Jets hire the right OC who has a balanced scheme where the TE is also used. Like I said before, there are some key moves that Mac has to make in order to improve this team to a respectable level. I'm trying to show patience until I see the finished product. But I also know that TB is the weak link, so no matter what Mac does with the team, it's going to be up to him to make all the pieces work.
don't know but i have a bad feeling about this OC position. don't think we'll attract an established play caller but rather a current QB coach who may have learned NFL offenses by printing plays for a playbook just a few years ago. the jets HAD to have known gaileys intentions and must have a list of possibilities. i am sure the list has a couple guys on the current playoff teams.
You stay as far away from a fired offensive coordinator under Rex Ryan as possible. Especially after the offense improves under them. His highest ranked offense with the 9ers was 11th in yards. Not a fan.
Because its the quickest path to becoming the new head coacg. I mean after the courtesy Rooney candidates, Norv could find himself back in the Top Dog seat. I would be begging for this job because Bowles might not make it through the season. Especially if it starts like the last one.
I like Roman his offense featured the runningback and tight ends. Power running mixed with a nice array of passing. Would be leaps better than Chan " Slash 90's" Gailey.
excep we have no TEs present or in development. And are not likely to pick one or two high in the draft.
or so it appears but we do have possibilities...... jenkins was a 2nd round pick and can play, if his head is into it AND as much as i think enunwa can be a beast at WR, he could slide in as receiving TE and be an absolute nightmare for defenses.
I think he is 63, that's not terrible. If he were a younger OC, there is always the chance he gets hired by another team. I'm thinking he can give the jets 3 years before he passes on the torch to a younger coach.
My point was that I think Norv will go anywhere for a year at his age. I actually thought he was older. Should have looked it up.
Was hoping Norv would be the Jets OC years ago, but I think that ship has sailed. Chip Kelly would be such a bad idea. For a team that needs to build chemistry, Chip has been known to destroy it. It was a mistake to make Gailey "retire"
