Yes. He's pretty awful, but hey, he's got nowhere else to go and Jets won't have to hire a high school coach. Match made in heaven.
I think every team has their coaching staff in place besides san fran... we know they're getting shanahan.
Hiring Godsey would be more because of his connection to Hackenberg and Maccagnan than his body of work IMO. Granted, Osweiler is garbage, and just like the Jets, the Texans have had abysmal QB play
You'd think they'd want to find someone...Even in college that works well with younger quarterbacks. Even with the connection with hack he has done pretty bad with osweiller.
Given that he did such a bad job with Texans I'm thinking the demotion to QB coach is possible and since he has ties to Hack and realized that Hack was a pro style QB, they can work together to regain sound mechanics...OC on the other hand remains to be seen
They better hire someone soon because as soon as Shanahan leaves the Falcons for the 49ers, they will need an OC too and they could in and scoop one of our targets. SMH firing Gailey big mistake Bowles. That will most likely cost you your job.
Watch, we'll end up with the JAG recently fired by the Texans, because he'll be the best choice to coddle Hack. He'll tell Mac how smart he was for drafting Hack in the 2nd round.
I don't know anything about the guy. I dont watch the crappy Texans but it sounds like you might? If so, how did he do a bad job with the Texans? Was it his playcalling? How much of it would be the crappy QBs he's had? I'm not trying to make excuses for the guy or anything, I am just curious how you and others know he did a bad job in Houston. I dont know a dammed thing about Houston or this guy
You hit the nail on the head. Godsey seems to love Hackenberg, he was instrumental in getting Hackenberg over to Penn State. I guess this could work in some capacity if he knows his strengths and weaknesses.
huh? Godsey was the New England Patriots' Tight Ends coach at the time Hackenberg was making his college decision. He never worked at Penn State. I suggested Godsey has worked in BOB's system of which Hack is familiar with but we have no idea how Godsey himself feels about Hack
I don't actually watch much of the Texans so I probably overstated his failures. I guess as an outsider you view the offenses the Texans have fielded which have been championed by Brian Hoyer, Osweiler, etc and you shake your head because the Jets face similar issues. Granted, the Texans had quite a few nice pieces this year like Deandre Hopkins, Will Fuller, Lamar Miller, etc. so even with the bad QB play I would have liked to see play calling that utilized the skill players available. But then someone can argue that if the QB sucks then the rest will follow. Also, another OC option is John Morton who is WR coach for the saints. He has coached under Jim Harbaugh with the 49ers
I never said Godsey worked at Penn State. Check out this link. Godsey was instrumental in getting Hack to Penn State. https://www.google.com/amp/www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/george-godsey-among-jets-oc-candidates/amp/
Mike Triplett ESPN Staff Writer Saints WRs coach John Morton talked with the Jets about their offensive coordinator job and remains a candidate, per source. ESPN Jets reporter Rich Cimini first reported that Morton was expected to be a candidate for the job. Morton returned to the Saints two years ago after originally joining Sean Payton's staff as an offensive assistant in 2006. In between, he served as a WR coach and offensive coordinator at USC and a WR coach on Jim Harbaugh's staff with the 49ers.
I have 0 confidence in them finding any dependability within this search.Bowles cares about offense even less than Rex did. He'd rather kick a field goal down 41-3 in the 4th qtr than field a respectable offense. We shouldn't even be in this position. If Bowles/Mac/FO had any competence..they should have had a contigency plan firmly in place as soon as Gailey told them he planned on retiring at year's end. This team needs offensive people. Top to bottom. The scoring ability of this franchise over the last several years is nothing short of comical. As we sit at rock bottom...it's time to drastically turn up the scoring urgency within coaching, scouting, scheme & players brought in.
okay thanks for clarifying. I understand you and that article are both going off a tweet from Albert Breer but Breer's comment doesn't make much sense to me. If he was helping BOB recruit Hack that's a rules violation. If he was telling BOB to recruit Hack, I mean, everyone wanted hack at the time. It's not like BOB wouldn't have been interested had a friend not told him about the no.1 QB recruit in the nation. That idea doesn't make much sense
I don't know anything about Morton but he's worked under some very good offensive minded coaches so I tend to think he's a good coach. He fits the mold for what they can expect to attract, namely an offensive position coach that has never been an OC. No experienced OC will come here knowing that in all likelihood Bowles is gone after next year along with his staff. It's an opportunity for him to show he can handle the OC duties and if he's done a good job he could be a candidate for HC once Bowles is fired. Parcells is the last Jets HC that had prior HC experience. Godsey was so bad the Texans took away his play calling after the 3rd game this year. As others mentioned I can see him coming in as QB coach but not OC. The Texans were ranked near the bottom of every offensive category this year. You don't hire the guy responsible for their offense as your OC.
