Snyder definitely seems to be a downward trajectory. I think Dawn of the Dead and 300 worked the best because you kind of expect stock/stereotypical characters in those movies. Watchmen was weird because he got the look right and had most of the major story elements in there yet it still wasn't a very good movie. Sucker Punch also has to be one of the worst movies ever made, did you actually manage to sit through the whole thing? It's rare I don't finish watching a movie I start but after about a half hour I was just angry and had to turn it off. The new Superman movie is going to be awful also. Superman sucks in general but I think they really missed the mark casting him as Diedrich Bader.
Never understood the hype surrounding Watchmen. Didn't read the comics, and everyone kept telling me that the movie is better if you read the comics, but that's such a bullshit excuse. Boring.
I think Man of Steel has great potential. Zack Snyder will stylize the shit out of it, but it has an excellent cast. Michael Shannon is the lead villain and he's awesome. I kind of like the fact that the cast a relatively unknown actor to play Superman. If Diedrich Bader was actually cast, I'd probably still see it anyway.
I think the script/story is going to make more of a difference than the cast. The problem with all these comic book adaptations is that they're rooted in hokey 1930s morality and story telling. The new Batman movies are really the only ones that have been able to rise above the horse shit and Batman is a much more interesting character than Superman.
You know Chris Nolan co-wrote Man of Steel, right? I'm interested to see what he does with it...I heard it's going to be very dark.
I guess we'll see when it makes it onto the screen. I know he was involved at one point but its not coming out till 2013 and he's obviously been working on his own shit over the past couple years so I'm not sure how involved he was with the actual writing of the script or how much it has changed since.
except Nolan is also producing it, which makes it his movie. Zack Snyder is working for him and making the movie Nolan wants.
The fact it's a Superman movie means it could still suck, but everything Nolan's done is excellent...so I have high expectations.
I love Snyder's Dawn of the Dead. I could watch it on a loop. That "Down with the Sickness" scene is outstanding. There's a real fun aspect to the zombie apocalypse that a lot of horror movies miss; that's why Shaun of the Dead killed. If it's all doom and gloom (like this fucking show) I start rooting for the zombies.
