I don't get what's supposed to be so outlandish about assuming a 38 year old QB is on the downward slope of his career. Father time is undefeated. Unfortunately for us, they invested heavily in their defense this year.
I don't think it is outlandish. But when this "downward slope" magically begins the same year his #1 WR is Edelman and behind that "stud" is a bunch of scrubs, I'm skeptical that it is primarily due to age and I'm leaning towards the more obvious reason. Guess we will find out this year.

And the Jets draft war room is relying on his "expert" opinion as the head of scouting. That's a frightening thought. Beyond comprehension.
Poor GM decisions don't necessarily mean he's a poor scout. He's not making those decisions anymore. Not that I have a soft spot for Bradway, but I think we should separate the two discussions if we want to have an honest conversation.
I certainly hope he has less and less in the tank. I just meant to say I expect Brady to still be the starter in 15, and maybe even after that.
The lack of competent receivers is a big reason for a decline in his completion percentage but if you look at the number of times he was sacked that gives an indication his reflexes may be slowing down a little. He hasn't been sacked as many times as he was last year since his first year playing full time. He was sacked 8 more times than any previous year besides that first year. This could be his response time slowing down, where in the past he would have found an outlet or just thrown the ball away. A 25% increase in times sacked could of course be attributed to the line play as well as the receivers but you need to give some weight to the fact he is getting up there in football years.

If you want to have an honest conversation, then he needs to take some of the blame. Of course the GM is relying on his input as part of their draft board, he's the head of scouting for the Jets. If you want to broaden the conversation to the FO isn't getting it done in the drafts well that's all encompassing of everyone who's involved. You could look at all 32 teams in the NFL and look at their head of scouting and in every case they will have significant input into what their draft war room big board looks like. And the GM relies on that input. You can separate the titles and responsibilities, but at the end of the day they're all accountable.
I'm not sure what you're talking about. The post I quoted referred to poor GM decisions. Those decisions don't really speak to his abilities as a scout IMO.
I know what you're talking about. What I'm saying is Bradway has gotten a pass for way too long. Part of those GM decisions on draft day come from the input of his scouting dept. Bradway is the head of that scouting dept. He has to take some of the blame for some of these shitty draft picks, and there's been a lot of them over the last decade. The main reason of a scout is to evaluate talent coming into the NFL. So it can only come down to one of two possibilities which are either: A. The Jets scouts aren't very good at evaluating talent or B. The GM isn't taking into account these evaluations as part of his decision making process on draft day. I find the second option rather hard to believe.

I just want to lay out very briefly his recent history with the Jets so we're all on the same page. 2001-2005: GM 2006-2013: Senior Personnel Executive 2014-Present: Senior Director of College Scouting I wish I knew what exactly those last two titles mean, but I think it's fair to say he has been deeply involved in our scouting department since being demoted from GM. Now, I don't think anyone on this site is giving Bradway a pass for anything. Everyone hates him. The Jets otoh seem to love him, and maybe that's who you're referring to about giving him a pass. I certainly wasn't giving him a pass for anything. I was just stating the simple fact that him trading 2 first round picks for a bowling ball with knives (and other GM decisions) is completely irrelevant when it comes to analyzing his ability as a scout.
Gotcha. Oh I know you weren't giving him a pass. I wasn't implying that. Yes I was referring to the Jets organization giving him a pass. The only commonality I see in Bradway's tenure is one person, Woody Johnson. Therein lies the problem. 14 years, 3 head coaches and Woody always sticks with his favorites. Bradway and Rex probably being his two biggest.
Senior Personnel Executive = the guy that makes the real personnel decisions when your GM is a contract lawyer by trade.
Imo, if the Jets had not looked so stupid following the Tebow trade with the Sanchez contract extension, Tanny would probably still be the GM.
He very well could be and I wasn't a Tanny fan either when it came to being a GM. Great numbers guy, mediocre player evaluator.
