It's no surprise to me. This guy was on my "do not draft" / "biggest bust" list pre-draft and nothing's changed.

Once Marqise, ASJ, and Jordan Mathews went off the board, Jimmy Garropolo should have been the pick.

This guy was projected by Bill Polian as not getting out of the 1st round.

He looks the part already of a future star QB.

Amaro looks about as dangerous as Anthony Becht did in the passing game.

I can understand not being in love with Amaro, but comparing him to Becht just makes you look like an idiot.

Well as long as you're not letting pre-established biases cause you to make premature judgments based on less than three total games of actual NFL film or anything.

That would make you're opinion look poorly conceived at best, no clearly you're going into this with an objective mindset.

Amaro as a rookie shouldn't be saying anything to the media other than "I'm excited" or "I will do whatever it takes"

He has all the tools to be a nice addition.. Plus if he buys in he could be a huge impact in the offence with decker taking a lot of heat off him.

Great post Toon, and it pretty much understates the obvious how glaringly bad the organization is. You can bet on the Jets to stick with a fair to bad QB just so Mr Idzik and company can prove us all wrong. Gag ....clock ticking. But seeing JG success absolutely hurts that he could have been with us. As for Amaro, I thought the pick was meh and a waste when all sort of the talent you mentioned was out there. As predicted, Garappolo will star in the league and Bellicheck will gloat how stupid the Jets were to let him walk. Other than Pryor, I am not saying all the Jets draft picks will not be decent but why do we all have to hold our breath to see who makes an impression or not. I am sick of Bradway and this scouting department...Idzik can take them with him when he leaves. I would love to see Woody Js expression as Garrap. was lighting things up.

Toon be prepared for all the homers telling us " you don't know anything" and to be patient for 2 more years...

… No, seriously, did I miss Garappolo's rookie of the year campaign or something?

Are we really basing the success and failure of draft picks on preseason debuts? Are we really complaining about not drafting a preseason rookie QB after a decent outing because our rookie TE hasn't ripped up the league in a second? We don't even know how their respective rookie seasons will go, let alone their careers.

Apparently Garoppolo will do great because he was the guy some of us wanted to draft, while Amaro is a disappointment because he wasn't the guy some of us wanted to draft.

"Garappolo will do great because he was a guy some us wanted to draft"??????!... Our personal desires have absolutely nothing to do with a players performance. Sorry, he is doing great because he is uber talented and will continue to demonstrate that barring injury. Talent: something the Jet organization has a fair to poor record at evaluating IMO. Amaro is talented, but so is Lee, Matthews, and a host of others. I think the Jets thought Amaro could be more of a WR too so they thought they would be getting a Hybrid. I understand the thought processes but hardly agree with the choice. Geno has had his rookie season, about where is you confidence level in him to lead us to the SB? 30%? 60% 100?? Could I be wrong? Sure. All I am saying is if any team needed immediate impact players on offense it is the Jets and they didn't really go that route smartly in the draft. Here is my take on things : Jet fan in their 20s and 30s : Oh my Gosh, that Mr Idzik is saving us some money and will draft a dynasty!!!; Jet fans in their 40s and 50s: ah yeah....uh OK I can see that move..not necessarily liking it, but. I will hang in there. Fans in their 50s/60+: Complete sense of powerlessness/resignation. Someone please buy team.

Hey, maybe the Jets will blow the Bengals away tonight or win by a field goal who knows.

Can we let time tell us if drafting Amaro over Garappolo was a good idea or not and not make such sweeping judgments based on barely anything? You guys are letting you're pre-established views on Jimmy G overvalue PRESEASON outings of all things.

Acting as if not taking JG was a bad decision based SOLELY on what you thought of him before and some exhibition outings shows lack of objective thought. I mean if you think he will STAR in this league based on all thats available as of right now you clearly already wrote the book on what he'll be like before this all started.

That wouldn't be so bad if you weren't actively trying to act as if it was an OBJECTIVELY bad decision, as if the obvious answer was there and Idzik was already wrong for going the route he did… based on preseason.

*sigh* Our ineptitude at evaluating and drafting offensive talent never ceases to amaze me

The Jets don't do a particularly good job of evaluating offensive star potential in the first 3 rounds. They haven't done this since Parcells and company left town. They do okay with the later picks though. Jerrico Cotchery in the 4th round was a steal as was Jeremy Kerley in the 5th. Neither was a star but they're both highly productive players and great value where they were drafted.

The Jets do need to do a much better job of finding great playmakers on offense early in the draft. It's not getting unlucky at this point, it's a mindset that goes for productive early on and then that's the ceiling. They have to find some really good offensive players soon or the Rex Ryan era will be known mainly for bad offenses.

The Eagles offense for the last 4 years of Buddy Ryan's tenure was Randall Cunningham and a bunch of roleplayers. Cunningham lead the Eagles in rushing 4 of those years and they never had a 1,000 yard receiver.

I didn't see ANYONE talking about Garappolo during the draft, and now you say you would've picked him in the 3rd round? Yeah fucking right. Show me a post before the draft where you guys were saying you should get Garappolo., and then you can bitch about evaluating talent, because nobody was saying a word about him until he went to the Patriots. I mean JStokes kept going on and on about how Nassib was going to be better than Geno. You guys are always way off and then pretend you knew everything all along.

Seriously...you wanna argue we should have taken a wide receiver or another offensive player over Amaro and I'll listen, but get the fuck out of here with acting like Garappolo is the second coming of Tony Romo after what? One good preseason quarter?

Yes, let's revisit this in a month or two. If I stand corrected, that's fine. I hope you feel likewise.

I am not here bitching about Idzik but there were a few of us thinking about Garopollo. I am not ready to induct him yet, just thought he would be a good pick up if he lasted to the 3rd. This is a thread about Amaro that the darksiders have taken over though.

    Easy there, Killer.

    Re: your post: cow chips.

Try going to the "Search Forum" tab at the top of the page, click on it and then in the 'Word' field type in "garrapolo" and see the many threads that come up before you take it upon yourself to come in here like gangbusters making stupid assumptions and calling 'ANYONE' and everyone out.

Here alone are 2 of many comments culled from that search:

/Garrapolo, Boyd, Thomas.. Given the time spent evaluating these guys, you have to assume rounds 2 or 3 the Jets could pull the trigger and take a QB.

Which I think is a good thing, add a rookie to push Geno up or out. Thomas looks interesting.

/Jimmie Garoppolo visits Jets today. Here is his Gruden interview. This guy broke all Tony Romos at EI. Not saying to get him Round 1 but Idzik knows we /can't have enough cheap talent: feet don't stop moving, does all his reads fast and an accurate passer.

As for JStokes, he went to Nassib's school Syracute so cop him some slack. But more to the point, maybe dial it down yourself big boy.

Here are a few of my thoughts:
    1) As BradWay mentioned above, we ABSOLUTELY have to do a better job of DRAFTING offensive talent. I don't know if it's because we never spend first round picks on offense, whether Rex Ryan defensive background hinders our ability to scout out strong offensive players or if Jets just can't draft on O, but what we've done over the past 5 years in the draft is abysmal. Besides Kerley, who was the last offensive star (applying it to Kerley could be generous) we have drafted in the past few years ? You can't win in this league without scoring points

    2) Yes, Garropolo looked good in preseason. So did Logan Thomas. So did Bortles. The reality is - most of this board would have been up in flames if, in the deepest WR draft in history, we used our 2nd round pick on Garropolo. While I am not a fan of the Amaro pick (I wanted a trade up for Matthews/Lee or I wanted Latimer or Robinson), I sure hope the F.O. knows what it's doing. Nevertheless, QB wasn't the biggest need for us - it would have been a luxury pick which is why the Pats could afford to make it. Garropolo was a late draft board riser and as we know from drafting Gholston, we have to be weary of chasing hype. If Garropollo was hanging around in the 5th, this would be a different conversation. Our needs were CB, WR, S, OLB, TE. We had too many holes to use a high pick on a luxury (would you have supported taking a 1st round graded DT that dropped to the 2nd rund with our pick?)

    3) If any of the QBs that we passed on end up being above average or all-time greats, Idzik will have a major problem. (Manziel, Bridgewater, Carr, Logan Thomas, Mettenberger, etc)

    4) Each of us would have had the draft done in hundreds of different ways (both prior and now having months of hindsight). Some people here hated on Kelvin Benjamin (myself included) and then now he is looking the part of a #1WR. I have to say while I am an Idzik supporter, there are plenty of guys that had some hair on them (Colt LYerla, Seantrel Henderson) who could have been great late round fliers for us so I have to wonder at what part he changes that goodie two shoe mentality. Not saying we have to be the Ravens, but we don't need to be angels either.

I had a big post about him on TGG back in May. Frankly, I don't see the relevancy here other than you should know all of ESPN etc talked about how he broke all sorts of school records and what a catch he would be. I don't think I know everything bro or half the stats many fans know about football in general, but I do remember discussing him on this board. I understand and share in your frustration, my whole point being that it is not really your job or mine to be scouting talent but the Jet FO.

I agree with many of your points and I don't think Idzik has made just bad decisions, it's just that some of them don't make sense. For example, in Free Agency he brought in Vick, if you felt Geno could turn it up this season why do that when you have a capable (not great) back up in Simms? Of course, we know the answer was to "push Smith" and have a good vet to step in if Geno gets worse. However, Vick is also old and his playing days are numbered and you know what you have with Simms. You are basically betting the future on Smith admitting it or not. So if there is doubt about your "franchise" QB it makes all the sense in the world to sign Garrapolo. Maybe the Jets want to wait until 2015 draft to get another QB but I am not so sure how much more Smith "improves"?

I agree with the idea of bringing in a young QB as well to compete with Smith. He did that with Boyd but I think that was a poor choice with Rex backseat driving. Saying that Garrapolo was "the pick" is tough given that it was a 2nd rounder against more immediate needs. That's a big investment after arguably shoring up the backup position after bringing in Vick.

I don't think Simms is a capable backup. Vick, McCown, Fitzpatrick, Jason Campbell are capable guys who can come in and play when a guy goes down. We have no idea if Simms could manage the team in the event of a Geno injury, so Vick was a necessary upgrade.
