It wasn't just you. Seemed like he was the "people's choice" on this forum for awhile. I thought maybe I was the idiot, as I never saw it.

Amaro has potential, it was only his first year. Here are the rookie years for comparable TE's since 2004:
    Columns are year, receptions, yards.

    1 Jace Amaro 2014 38 345

    2 Chris Cooley 2004 37 314

    3 Bo Scaife 2005 37 273

    4 Owen Daniels 2006 34 352

    5 Ben Troupe 2004 33 329

    6 Jimmy Graham 2010 31 356

dude if either of those guys become available you call them immediately. we need warm bodies at TE at this point let alone guys that have actually contributed for other teams in this league at one point in time.

I think Gresham would actually be a decent signing for us. Maybe a change of scenery is what he needs

thats unfair. Cumberland has nice hands and is a decent role player. The fact that he's not a corvette like Jimmy Graham type TEs doesn't mean he's trash. He's a classic TE type. Most of them are just big guys that can run in a straight line with hands anyway. Smaller, softer, quicker TEs just play a different game and although it would be nice to have a Jimmy Graham/Owen Daniels/Jordan Reed/Jacob Tamme type, that's never who Cumberland is/was.

is Cumberland any different athletically to Scott Chandler (12 TDs in 2 years in Gailey's offense btw)? is he any different athletically to Ben Watson? Richard Rodgers? etc.. not really. those guys are mostly big guys won can run straight pretty fast like him. They've carved out nice roles in this league with teams.

what Cumberland needs to improve is his blocking. athletically he's fine for a role on this team if he can hit people too.

I must admit when I looked it up I was positively shocked that Cumberland didn't have a single dropped pass last year.

Gresham is under contract with the Cards and looks safe to make their roster.
Rosario is under contract with the Bears and looks safe to make their roster.

Right now, the pickins are pretty slim, and a lot depends upon whether we are looking for more of a blocking TE or an H Back like Amaro. You've also got to think Enumwa factors into the decision as well as he could fill that H Back role. The only two veteran guys that look intriguing at the moment are Brandon Bostick - cut by the Vikings - and Mickey Shuler - cut by the Falcons.

You know, for all the talk about how snake-bitten this team has been at the QB position, is there any position where this is more so than Tight End? What has this team had at that position that was reliable since Mickey Shuler?

You'd think he just had brain surgery or a heart transplant.

The problems with comparing stats is you're ignoring the type of player that got those stats. Amaro and Graham don't even belong in the same paragraph, much less sentence athletically. I don't know all those TEs, but of the ones I do know a little about, they have better hands, are not as stiff, are more athletic, and may be faster. I think they're also better all-around TEs than Amaro.

How about that Cowboys backup TE? Pablo Escobar's son. Escobar something. He's basically a Jace Amaro clone and I'm sure the Cowboys would be open to trading him, with the amount of depth they have at TE. Maybe even vs Dee Milliner. He's injured but he'll be back this year and the Cowboys could use him even though they're probably tired of injury prone corners.

Bostick is the guy who had vapor lock late in a game, cut in front of Jordy Nelson on an onside kick and cost the Packers the game (and trip to the SB, I think). I don't know if he has any talent, but the Packers dropped him hot rock, and he didn't stick with the Vikes, but maybe if we keep him off of STs, he can at least be a good blocker or something. Mickey Shuler, Jr. must not be as good as his dad, but they ought to bring him in for a workout just because.

Gavin Escobar! The fucker was even born in NY AND he LOOKS like Jace. Same age too. Drafted in the same round. It all makes sense now! I should take over for Macc next year. But why am I quoting myself.

EDIT: Even same size. Get it done, Macc!
