yeh tanny would have overpayed keller, signed wallace, and probably traded for alex smith or something
glad everybody is ecstatic that idzik made the obvious cuts that T-baum was already going to make. no surprises at all. if it helps anybody i suppose they can pretend otherwise, but there hasn't been anything done thus far that is a deviation from what T would have done. Which is fine actually. Its just funny how delusional and foolish the fans are who think that this is some radical new direction for the organization. Its the same business decisions that were already made in November - the same exact players were cut/not re-signed who were going to be cut / not re-signed under T. No surprises at all. if u think otherwise u are delusional.
The key world is that you think he will give us depth, but the fact is that his past work does not support that idea. I can go down the roster and praise Tannys great pick too, it proves nothing. The truth is that Tanny had this team one game away from the Superbowl two years in a row, while the seahawks floundered in a weak division. I agree that Tanny had to go, but trying to say that Idzak is a better GM just is not true. What NFCG was the Seakawks in again? maybe I missed it. Was it on Telemundo or something.?
you are probably right about the cuts, however tanny's track record suggests that he would have signed aging vets too bigger contracts instead of the 1-2 mil contracts idzick gave out to guys in their 20's with more upside. like i said in the previous post. this seems like a more sound financial plan
You are entirely missing the point of my post. Anthopoulos has spent four years building through the drasft and developing talent. In that time the farm system has been ranked routinely near the top of the league. The team looks poised to make a run this year, so yes i am assuming this is the year we see the results when i say this. So in compariosn, if Idzik eats this year and probably 2014, to start a youth movement. I will accept this for the results in 2015 and further. AA made his name as an assistent helping secure the Roy Halladay trade to Philly, a high priced ready to win player (Revis, thought Doc has never been a hold out type of player) He then moved Vernon Wells and his inflated contract out of town, the same type of contract Tanny loved to toss around. Anthopolous was named GM in 2009 so i fail to see how 94 through 08 are relevent to my point.
It's a matter of philosophy. Go all in on a handful of proven vets to get over the hump, or sit back and build slowly with with B players with upside and the draft. If your HC gets you to within 30 minuets of the Super Bowl two years in a row, you gotta feel 'close', so you sell out to get that one or two players. If you finish the season 6-10 with a bunch of old, slow millionaires, well you curb stomp half your roster and start over.
This is true, but I have a feeling that Tannenbaum would be reaching a bit more for certain guys. As somebody already mentioned, Keller and Wallace come to mind. I could be wrong though.
Remember Aso chase. And the constant trade ups. It remains to be seen if Idzik goes after certain players during the draft - I doubt that. In Idzik's defense, it hasn't happened yet. During T-Bomb's tenure, Jets had traded a third of their top four selections away (8/24 = 1/3). If you don't realize this, you are simply clueless.
The Aso chase was the moment that it became clear the Jets weren't going to get over the hump. You have Revis signed, you have Cromartie available in free agency, you have Kyle Wilson for the slot and instead you try to pay another $12 million for another CB in the late prime of his career. All you need to know about the 2011 Jets is that they prioritized getting a superstar CB in free agency while they were planning to start Wayne Hunter at RT. That's pretty much never going to work anywhere and that the Jets tried to make it happen tells you why Mike Tannenbaum is gone.
We all saw it coming - you should be able to find my bitching when Jets traded up for third straight year in Ryan's reign. (2011). Check this out: http://www.pro-football-reference.com/teams/nyj/draft.htm After 2006, Jets NEVER had a complete 1 2 3 4 round picks in any of the years following. It's pretty depressing. I was pissed when I took the time to look at it myself years ago. When I raised this issue, all I heard after that was the Tanny the Whizkid. And now, Jets roster is devoid of talent, except a few spots. (DL, CB for example.) If it wasn't obvious by then (as it was to me, and to multitude of people) it should be clear as day by now.
As stated, not one move thus far that T was not also going to make. Anybody who thinks otherwise is clueless.
while we can't prove this argument either way, tanny's history suggests that he would have went hard after avril or reggie bush instead of taking the more cap friendly goodson and barnes. to think otherwise is ignoring tannys m.o. and track record over the last 4 years
Yes about the initial wave of cuts (B. Scott, C. Pace, E. Smith, J. Smith). I'm not so sure about the cutting of S. Pouha since he is the one who just gave him that contract last year. Also, for Holmes, who can say whether he would agree to restructure with Tannenbaum? I'm sure Tannenbaum would have pursued to restructure that contract, but who can say with certainty that Holmes would have agreed to. Same can be same for Cromartie. As for how FA has played out, I don't think it would have gone the same with Tannenbaum in control. As many have stated, he probably would have overpaid for someone (Wallace, Avril, Keller, etc.) instead of going bargain hunting and looking for low-cost players to fill depth/starting roles
How can you be worried about their inactivity when realistically the team's legs were cut off before the process even started. Hello...they didn't have alot of money to begin with. Until cutting a whole slew of players the team was OVER the cap. There wasn't going to be much spending this off season. So..the draft has that much more importance. I think that's a mistake. I'd much rather have proven NFL talent on my roster than kids. That's just me I guess.
Rex came out and said he doesnt think we are rebuilding. And frankley i belive him,I dont get all the rebuilding talk, We cut a bunch of overpaid vets who besides landry no one will miss. What if Sanchez comes out and has a big year??? are we still rebuilding? If we go on a surprise run and have a good season then what was all the rebuilding talk about? If D-Brick,Cro,Mangold,Harris,Holmes,Wilk,Coples got cut or traded then id see the rebuilding point but by cutting a bunch of overpaid vets and not resigning a couple mediocre talents it doesnt make sense. The Ravens lost more starters then we did and no ones saying there rebuilding. With the guys we added so far, Goodson,Barnes,Colon,Garay and whatever happens with the draft and Revis we could be looking pretty good this season not 2 years from now
And if that was not bad enough, addingTebow and extending Sanchez's contract was beyond the kiss of death for the Jets in 2012.
The Ravens just won the fucking super bowl. Of course no one is saying they're rebuilding. Don't compare the jets to them. We have no offense, no QB and half our defense isn't returning. We are clearly rebuilding. If you can't see that you're blind.
