It definitely depends who is available as far as I'm concerned. I would rather have Mingo then Jones, I know that much. I want players in top 15 picks with potential to be great. Mingo absolutely has bust potential but he has huge upside as well. I'll trust Rex on getting best out of him.
He's not raw. He's just 235 pounds. Its tough to set the edge when you're gonna get driven back 3 yards. Pass. Pass on Ansah too. Talk about a raw developmental pick, he only played 2 years and had 4.5 sacks.
So in your theory Jarvis Jones does not have the potential to be great? I would take Jones over Mingo in a heartbeat. If you go by straight production, Jones outperformed the living shit out of Mingo. A slow 40 and concern for health put Jones out of the top 3. If it were not for those 2 obstacles, Jones is probably the best player in the draft.
If Rex is a lame duck, then I hate the pick. If Rex is going to be around for a while, then I don't mind the pick.
I hope Mingo gets drafted before the JETS pick at #9. Mingo's reminds me too much of Aaron Maybin when it comes to their size/speed. I never like drafting a guy that has played 4-3 DE his entire career and you ask him to learn a new position basically at LB. Dion Jordan, if he drops, fingers crossed, and Jarvis Jones are the best two fits for the JETS at OLB at #9.
