This season is over. I'll be happy if we even go 7-9, but honestly, I think we're going to lose out the rest of the season and end up 5-11. 5-11 is acceptable for a first year coach usually, but not if you start 4-1 and then collapse. So if that happens, Bowles could be gone. What NEEDS to happen next year: Start dismantling the front seven. Of the linebackers, get rid of everyone except Mauldin and Harris. Pace should retire. Of the defensive line, trade Richardson for a 1st or 2nd round pick and keep Williams, Wilkerson, and Harrison. Pick up a quick pass rusher capable of being an edge threat. Replace Cromartie. 'Nuff said. Offensive line: Get a new tackle ready to replace D'Brick. He's getting old and doesn't have much left in the tank. Consider getting a new center to take over for Mangold in the next few years. Get a tight end. For God's sake, the last time we had a halfway decent tight end was Anthony Becht. Either start developing Bryce Petty or look for another guy to be a franchise QB. DON'T DRAFT A QB FOR NEXT YEAR'S STARTER!!! Every single QB expected to go in the 1st or 2nd rounds this year have all the problems Geno and Sanchez have: Inability to make reads, staring down their receivers, panicking under pressure, better in college-style spread option offenses, weak under center. Manning may be gone from Denver next year. It might not hurt to pick him up for a year to mentor a new QB and kick some life into this team. I'd much rather that a new guy learn from Manning than Fitzpatrick. None of the new QBs seem ready for the NFL, but if they learn from one of the greats, they may develop properly.
Lol lets just "pick up" Manning for a year. Like he'd ever come to NY to finish out his career. Who thinks of this shit? _
It's not a "how to fix this team in a few easy steps". It's the direction we need to go in. These are the things that need to be done. I'm not naive enough to believe that it's as simple as 123. I'm simply saying, instead of picking up yet another 300 pound run stuffing tackle to add to a team already full of them, we need a rush linebacker. Instead of picking up another speedy WR with stone hands, we need to invest in someone who can throw to a receiver. We have a bunch of needs that haven't been addressed since the end of the Eric Mangini years. Sanchez was the ONLY time we tried to find a good starting QB. Geno and Fitzpatrick were both brought in to be backups even though they both ended up starting. We haven't had a pass rusher since John Abraham and haven't even attempted to get one since Vernon Gholston. As I've said before, instead of putting together a defense that can play to our personnel's strengths, these coaches keep putting square pegs into round holes. If they're going to insist on coaching like that, the very least we can do is get some round pegs. This team has been in the mindset that instead of addressing weaknesses, you ignore them and make other parts stronger to compensate. That needs to stop. Nothing is going to be cured in one or two seasons. But I'd at least like to see some progress instead of doing the same thing year after year and expecting a different result.
This cannot be a serious response. Or you weren't a fan in 2008, do not understand the dynamics back then and don't understand anything about Peyton Manning. _
Brett Favre needed a way out of GB after fucking with them for 2 years, needed a way to get to Mimny. Peyton Manning wants nothing to do with the New York Jets. _
the 2015 jets are the inevitable result of Rex, Idzik and Tanny drafting for defense all those years and ignoring offense. The jets OL is old and bad. They are playing a journeyman QB who is on his 5th team. None of their RBs are a home run threat. They don't have or even play a tight end. Their special teams stink. On top of all that I think Bowles is in way over his head.
Then promptly got hurt for the last time the very next season and had his career ended. Pennington was great when he was healthy, which was next to never.
Which worked well for the Jets because the Fish believed Tony Sparano was a good coach but instead led Miami to the dark ages where they still reside today. Also, had the Jets kept Pennington, we can assume they win the division 2008 but then also assume he gets injured again in 2009. No Rex. No Sanchez. Eric Mangini as coach. Same GM making poor draft picks. Not sure the results the last 5 years would have been better.
