I think it's a bit presumptive to think that Mayfield left specifically to avoid competition. And from what I heard he fought very hard to qualify to play that year and they forced him to sit out. Many of the fans call that the "Mayfield rule." It's not even close to the same thing as sitting out a year as a pro.
thta's kinda the issue, if he couldn't impress his own coach, or stick around and compete, that's an issue. look at keenum. he's starting for denver, but on 80% of teams he wouldn't start. IDK how you blame the coach. he picked a team with no competition at QB either.
His words, not mine. He said he didn't feel a competition was "fair" and that he had earned the job. I know he fought to play in 2014, but still in the end had to sit out, had he stayed and competed and won he would have played in 2014. I don't know how people cna't see that as a red flag
You keep skipping over the point that coaches are often biased, not necessarily based on the person (though that can be true also), but because they prefer a certain TYPE of player. IDK what his T.T. coach preferred, but it obviously wasn't Mayfield, and he recognized that and left. It was smart for him to do this.
how do you know they didn't prefer him? if the coach didn't like his "style" he wouldn't have brought him on board. He had brewer who was slated to start and also webb. Mayfield walked on as the 3rd QB. brewer got injured and webb was suffering from an illness and lost 40lbs before the season so mayfield wound up starting. he also got hurt in the 2013 season (5th game) and webb took over at QB and mayfield complained he wasn't put back in when he felt he was ready to play again. Webb kept the starting job the rest of the year and mayfield transferred after the season. brewer also transferred out but they recruited mahomes to pair with webb
Despite me starting to convince myself not to hate Allen, the second any name other than Darnold & Rosen is announced in the first 2 picks, I'm dancing for joy. I will then proceed to curse uncontrollably if either are available when we pick, and we go a different route.
The coach didn't "bring him on board", Mayfield brought himself on board by walking on and making the team. It was clear the coach didn't have great love for him, but Mayfield probably thought that once he won the job - even due to injury - that he had proven himself, but when it became obvious he hadn't it was clear he needed to find a more supportive HC. The fact you keep hanging onto this belief that Mayfield isn't highly competitive really shows how biased against him you are.
Pretty good article on why the Jets should draft Mayfield at #3. He also has a mock draft for the Jets. http://turnonthejets.com/2018/04/new-york-jets-draft-notebook-the-case-for-baker-mayfield/ Here's another interesting article that rates QBs and their chances of success: https://www.footballoutsiders.com/stat-analysis/2018/qbase-2018 Here's a quote from this article: Here's another interesting article: https://www.footballoutsiders.com/stat-analysis/2018/beating-nfl-drafting-qbs It doesn't include the 2017 stats however, so I don't see how it can be taken very seriously. If you don't include the most recent year, it makes Darnold look a WHOLE lot better, and Rosen, Mayfield and Allen worse. I suggest reading the entire article to get a better understanding of what they're analyzing and how they arrive at their conclusions, but here's the pertinent quote as it pertains to the top 4 2018 QBs:
You're wasting your time with him. He thinks he knows it all, and he's laughingly biased against Mayfield. He's making himself look more and more ignorant with his comments. It's obvious that he hasn't watched Mayfield play at all and has done no research on him. You're not gonna convince let. Let him him have his ignorant delusions.
yup attack the poster then post articles and stats because you can't form your own opinion from watching any film also you keep quoting connor rodgers who has a track record of being awful in his assessments.
if Mayfield was the choice does anyone think that the Jets would have given up so much to go to 3? Unless there is something other teams don't see he will be available at six.
It’s extremely conceivable that 4 QBs are gone by 6 and even more likely that 3 would be. Browns, whoever the Colts traded with that wasn’t us (and the Bills would have absolutely traded up), Broncos and maybe Giants.
Dude, you're as clueless as you are desperate. I'm just telling the truth, not attacking you. Several other posters have said the same thing. One would think by now, that if you were sincere, you'd take a hint, back off and change your approach. If you can't handle the truth, that's your problem. If you don't want to be perceived as a "know-it-all" then quit acting as if you do. I watched several of Mayfield's games this year, have watched more since the season ended, have looked at a lot of cut-ups of Mayfield, and have done a lot of research. It's blatantly obvious that you have done none of that and in spite of the fact that not only I, but several others have pointed that out, you've never denied it. Your heavily biased opinion is based solely on the fact of his height, that he played in a spread offense in the Big 12. End of story. I keep quoting Connor Rodgers? LOL I've quoted him once as far as I know. That again just shows how off- base you are. You have nothing so you just throw crap at the wall hoping something will stick. When you make a good post, I click on "like". It's not personal. I'm attacking what you say and how you say it, not you as a person.
You don't know that. It's all your conjecture. In all likelihood all 4 of the top QBs would have been gone by #6. The Browns are definitely taking a a QB. The Giants quite likely will be taking a QB (if they're smart, anyway). If we hadn't traded up with the Colts, either the Bills or Cardinals would have and they would have taken a QB. Denver definitely would have taken a QB. I definitely think that the Jets and other teams would have traded up for a chance at Mayfield. He's a great prospect. Sorry that you can't see it.
No idea. But if they do it will be a team that absolutey will take a QB. Bottom line is there’s no way to guarantee any of the top 4 QBs would be there at 6 considering who is ahead of us and who is clearly looking to move up.
you quoted him more then once but ignored when i showed how bad he was at avulating talent. i can't also care less about "a few posters" there are a handfull of people who are just way off base, there are also quite a few that are pretty good posters. it's an old saying "a person is smart, people are dumb"
