Perhaps we could just make the voting public and discount our own votes. Then there would be no need for any of these conspiracy theories. Im sure most of us would just vote for our own team anyway
This would work for me. Not only discounting when we vote for our own teams, but also discounting all votes made by Murrell2878, 1028, Cakes, ganooch, kevin68, JetGreen, Jonathan_Vilma, MSUJet85, Wolfe Tone, and DonnieIsTheKing. Either this, or the idea I came up with, with Murrell2878 has supported. The only problem with the first scenario is we must do a better job advertising the tournament and making it easier for the voters. (I betcha there are tons of potential voters who just do not know enough about old school football players.) If we don't do that, we'll have 3-5 people casting votes. Look at last week- four games had 14 votes and one game had 12 votes- most of those votes had to be from the ten of us. I think we will have a change in the voting system starting with next week.
The other reason why the idea I came up with (the one Murrell2878 said is a great idea) is good is this: An awful lot of votes were cast yesterday before people even posted gameplans and team bios. Maybe someone has a lineup change or wants to attack the opponent's defense in a certain way or something else like that which would be important for the voters to know.
Are you sure about that? I voted on that game at around 12:40 am on Wednesday, July 5 (you can see I posted at 12:37). That was about 61 hours after the poll opened. I seem to recall my vote made the score 6-3, but I am not absolutely positive. It may have been 5-3 or 7-2, but it was definitely in that neighborhood. That game had a final score of 11-3. If what you are saying is true, my vote would have been the 10th vote, 11th vote, 12th vote, 13th vote, or 14th vote. And if you meant that your team itself had 9 votes within the first 18-24 hours, that is definitely off base. Either way, the votes there didn't come in at the rate they flew in yesterday in my game thread.
Either way is fine with me. Ill admit, Im a bit apathetic to the whole situation But like you said, many of the votes are probably coming from the people who themselves are directly involved with the draft. So, though it may all be in good faith, it will also ultimately result in less votes cast, for better or for worse
Sometime on Tuesday or Wednesday I will make some comments on the draft. I will note each person's two best picks and two worst picks. I'll note the top ten steals. Something to this effect anyway. I figured we would all do this sort of thing after the draft, but we never did. We basically went right into the game thread action.
Another thing I'd love to see (in addition to what I just posted in the MSUJet85-Cakes game thread): The ten of us making the case for our own team in our game threads. I am assuming everyone has been voting for their own teams. Well, I think we all should be explaining why our team would win the games. I don't think I have had my opponent make a case for his own team for three weeks now. I notice that in a lot of the threads people do not back their own team with a detailed post. The team bios are good, but they don't explain why a team would beat another team in a given game thread.
I'll bump this thread with some similar thoughts I posted earlier today. We need more people voting. It's like the "American Idol" analogy I made. What we are doing by voting for our own teams would be like if America couldn't vote any longer and the winner was decided amongst the contestants themselves with maybe only a few spectators voting. And that's flat ridiculous when you really think about it. As a courtesy, I am asking the voters to explain their votes. The ten of us put a ton of work into this whole thing. Hopefully, people will support the baseball tournament a bit more.
Here are my calls for which teams have the best units: quarterbacks- JetGreen (Johnny Unitas and Joe Namath) *running backs- DonnieIsTheKing (Walter Payton and Jim Taylor as starters; Franco Harris off the bench) wide receivers- Cakes (Paul Warfield and Jerry Rice) tight end(s)- ganooch (John Mackey and Keith Jackson) offensive linemen- 1028 (Rosey Brown, Dan Fortmann, Mike Webster, Stan Jones, Dan Dierdorf) defensive linemen- DonnieIsTheKing (Gino Marchetti, Merlin Olsen, John Randle, Doug Atkins) linebackers- Cakes (Bobby Bell, Dick Butkus, Jack Ham) secondary- 1028 (Everson Walls, Ken Houston, Larry Wilson, Deion Sanders) placekicker- Cakes (Jan Stenerud) punter- 1028 (Ray Guy) *this was the toughest for me; I think a case could be made for a few other teams
Hmm...I remember when I was on the clock for a placekicker. I had to choose between Stenerud and (Morten) Anderson. I chose Anderson (obviously), but I remember that being one of the tougher decisions of my draft
Yeah, I believe I remarked somewhere that had we continued drafting Branch would look real good on your team specifically.
Dolphins vs Raiders 1974-The Sea of Hands Can someone explain why this game is called The Sea of Hands
Clarence Davis caught the game winning touchdown pass with a couple Dolphins all over him. All their hands met as Davis hauled in the pass.
Not a great picture as this is a few split seconds after Davis made the catch, but it's all I've got.
