Call it what you like but what specifically do you take issue with? Which of the teams I've listed would you argue is a good football team?
I hear what your saying jwws but much of that is in repsonse to posters that attacked a fan that diagrees about Chad. Its in response to posters that shout threads saying "where are all the chad haters today!!" which is common after a good game from Chad. So posters respond back "hey..good win..but it is what it is..Chad cant come up on a radar gun". That sends defenders through the roof. So whos wrong? Who doesnt deserve to have an opinion. If someone wants to come hear screaming not after Chad floated the ball all over the place against the Bears...but when he lights up a defense like the Lions...whos wrong. I have no problem with posters that start threads saying "did your opinion change after todays game?", its the posts that scream at me, a nondefender, on where am I today after a win. Im here, like all the other guys that dont love Chad...feeling the same exact way. I have said it before, Chad has the heart of a lion...I like hiim. EDIT: Just not as a the qb of the nyj's
You left out Saban chicken call on 4 & inches. J Miller deflection which was important also. The MD BF player who dropped that easy INT of a wounded duck. Saban challenge of Jmac catch costing them a TO. OTH that TD pass to Crotch was quite pretty as LW 64 yd sprint.
On 6/13/06 I predicted that we would go 10-6 QUOTE=Hot Rod;185257]Tennessee: W Pats: L Bills: W Colts: L Jags: W Fins: W Lions: W Browns: L Bye Pats: L Chicago: L Texans: W Packers: W Bills: L Vikings: W Fins: W Oakland: W 10 WINS[/QUOTE] I was wrong on the Jacksonville, 2nd NE game only!!! Yes I did see this coming.
Mostly your comment "some of the games that Chad lost for the Jets this year". You refuse to give him credit when they win and put the losses squarely on him. So it was Chad's fault Indy drove down the field twice in a row in the final 2:00, sandwiched around Justin Miller's TD? It was Chad's fault we couldn't stop New England's running game in the first meeting? It was Chad's fault Baker was ruled out of bounds on the game tying TD? How many wins do you honestly think we'd have with the big-armed Browning Nagle, Glenn Foley or Michael Vick at the helm? Or a rookie in Clemmens?
It is becoming clear that as fans we are guilty of the "God complex". This affliction is one in which we are not happy or satisfied with any amount of success IF we were not the creators or architects of that success. In this case, our team is not really any good and Chad certainly sucks, so we don't want to succeed until we as fans have successfully retooled the roster with the appropriate palymakers and star QB to take us to the promised land. That would be the perfect formula for a SB winning Jets team. Unfortunately, for some, Eric Mangini is trying to succeed with the hand he was dealt, the best way he can.
Stay away from specualation & you will be far better off. As I posted earliier there are weaknesses that CP brings to the field. If the CS can game plan around them then terrific but that still does not mean that the CS should not be evulating EVERYONE on the team & upgrade wherever they see weaknesses. The idea in this league is winning SBs & to be a SB CONTENDER you have to have the strongest possible players
There are weaknesses in everyone's game, whether it's accuracy, arm-strength, decision making, etc. The key is can you win and we've been a contender every year Chad has been in there. The coaching staff opened the QB job up to everyone they could bring in during camp and Chad walked off with it, it wasn't even close. So they figured Chad's weaknesses weren't as bad as the other guys' weaknesses, and they turned out to be right, which is why we have a win-and-in game this Sunday. You personally told me earlier in the season that we'd be in "hell" until about 2010 from the Bradway/Herm regime, and 3rd told me after the last Buffalo game a couple weeks back that there's no way we're making the playoffs. So excuse me if I take you guys' negativity with a grain of salt.
The Indy game was absolutely on the defense. You won't get any argument from me there. Most teams lose when their QB plays poorly and Chad has played very poorly in each of the Jets last 4 losses. And I did give him credit in my last post, most QB's don't handle business against weaker opponents as well as Pennington has over his career. That being said I'll take the QB that occasionally flubs an "easy" game but can step it up against a tough opponent, which I don't think Pennington is capable of. I'm not sure how to respond to the last part of your post, as 2 of the QBs you mentioned are not in the NFL and the 3rd is terrible. This is the equivalent of me saying to someone that thinks we need to upgrade the RB position "How would you like it if we had big bad Blair Thomas or Ki-Jana Carter in the backfield? How many games do you think we'd win then?"
IMHO you do not need a "franchise" QB (see Peyton) but we do need a QB that has a arm who can throw deep sideline passes with zip on them or 50/60 yds DF like Cutler did a couple of weeks ago for when we are trying to come back say from 2 TDs in the 4th qtr.
This is not negative it was our judgement. You DO NOT know if it will still be 2010 before we challenge for the SB now do U? Please do not go on the theroy that 10-6 this year translates in 13-3 next year before you could be awfully disappointed at the end of next season
that may be true depending on the system you operate. Ben Rothlisberger may have that arm you speak of, and he certainly won a super bowl, but I see Chad doing stuff on the field that either Ben can not do, or is holding back from doing, things like getting rid of the ball quickly, or getting the ball into the hands of the skill positon players so that they can execute. It is all relative. Cutler's great arm may actually delude him into thinking he has to win the game for the team, instead of playing as part of the team and allowing things to happen naturally based on practice and execution. There is no magic pill.
We're challenging for it now. Only 12 of 32 teams make the playoffs, the only 12 with a chance to win it, and we have a chance to be one of the 12 with a home win vs a 2-13 team. With four years to spare.
Really you think I am unaware of that. Challenging & winning is like nite is to day. You should learn before talking smack you should wait for the fat lady to sing. So from your post you have not the foggiest idea if my statement of 2010 is incorrect now do you?
Champ, I agree with you here, and I often do agree with you that the GOAL for every season should be a CHAMPIONSHIP. However, from a fan expectation point of view, you can NOT be dissapointed with a playoff birth this season knowing what condition this team was at the start of the year. Again, I AGREE that the team should not be satisfied with just making the playoffs, and should make every effort possible to win the SB. However, assuming they put in every effort, if they come up short this year, you can NOT be dissapointed with this team.
Yes I do because I remember it in its context. If I cared enough I'd go find and link it, maybe I will. But it certainly didn't mean us going to the playoffs this year or any time soon. You've already changed your tune from "challenging for" to "winning" a Super Bowl in your last few posts.
IMO there's a pretty clear distinction between making the playoffs and being a SB contender. I'm unsure of the exact language champ used but just as an example, if the Giants and the rest of the WC teams lose this week and they make the playoffs at 7-9, you would consider them a SB contender?
