i have been on the cutler train since he was at vandy...... he is as much a hi risk/hi reward guy there is - similar to favre when he was younger. there is no question the jets will have to pay a premium - because its a QB, a young QB, and its the jets - many in the league will scoff at the jets throwing picks at the broncs to land cutler. my offer would be this years 1st and 3rd and at least a 3 next year which could escalate to a 2 or even a 1 if, dare i say it, the jets reach the AFC championship. the problem is denver needs a QB and we have heard that a 3rd team may be needed here. a 3 way is rare in the NFL so not sure if it would fall out that way. FWIW i am fully on the cutler wagon jil
No doubt, he didn't get it done as a rookie playing his first 7 games. If you've watched him play between then and 2008 you can see how big of a difference there is in his play. He's a much better QB now and it's not arguable. Personally I think he's underrated, but to each his own. It's way different than Favre because of the age as you pointed out. edit: fwiw - Last season his ratio of picks to attempts was 1:34. Last season, Brees had an interception every 37 pass attempts. Favre's ratio was 1:23, and Roethlisberger's was 1:31. Cutler's career ratio is 1:33. He isn't throwing nearly as many picks as Favre when you look at per attempt.
I do not want Cutler. I did not want Favre for many reasons but some similar as to not wanting Cutler. I am not comfortable with a QB who is so full of himself that he thinks he can throw a ball into double and triple coverage and because of his amazing arm strength he is going to the thread it in there. I disagree with the OP wih that I think Bradford will be by far the best QB coming out next year and better than Cutler or the three blind mice we currently have. Of course we have absolutley no chance of landing Bradford unless we ultimately suck next year, which is possible giving we have no proven WR's or QB's. Bottom line is I do not think Cutler is the right fit for NY or the Jets but if Woody needs to sell some PSL's and his advisors tell him that will help do not count it out of the question.
I guess Joe Namath isn't your most favorite person either....sheeesh! Who cares if he's full of himself or not....I don't give a shit if he steals your lunch money...his job is to distribute the football and win games....not to win humanitarian awards. I'm tired of this team falling into mediochrity every year...I WANT TO WIN!! Cutler is a franchise calibre QB...bottom line. Something this franchise has been in DIRE need for some time now. Quit posting assinine reasons as to why we should pass on him
Oh man, if we traded our 1st, 2nd and Clemens to Denver for Cutler, and then Clemens went on to have a better career... I'd probably talk about committing suicide even though I really don't mean it, but wish I meant it.
And what if we had an opportunity to trade but didn't and Cutler went on to a prolific career with a couple championships while Clemens quickly faded away?
Any "what if" is possible. The question is how much would we be willing to give up for a guy and how would he do in New York if he's so thin skinned?
Let's get this straight cause too many people are in la la land as far as what would have to be given for Cutler.. Cutler would cost 2 number ones minimum. And you'd probably have to add a conditional pick to that. Reading people in dreamworld talking about pick #17 and Clemens, that isn't even close.
I was just throwing that out there because the "what if" game is silly. The thin skinned argument is the only good argument I've heard against him. It's a question mark for sure.
hater. how is it not necessary when the situation regarding Cutler is changing and you hear the Jets organization is involved more everyday that passes. its definitely necessary, because I do not want to spend a 1st round pick and more on a QB and SPEND THE MONEY, rather than waiting for McCoy in 2010.
He's much bettre but not winning. You can blame the D all you want bu good QBs can get teams w/ bad D's at leats into the postseason. So far Cutler is a good fantasy QB.
In 2001 a 25 year old Peyton Manning in his 4th season as a starter lead the Colts to the 2nd ranked offense and a 6-10 record with the 29th ranked defense. In 2008 a 25 year old Jay Cutler in his 2nd (and a half) season as a starter lead the Broncos to the 2nd ranked offense and an 8-8 record with the 29th ranked defense. It's a team game. No QB is going to make the playoffs with the 29th ranked defense.
exactly. my friend is a broncocs fan. he was hyped when the OC from NE went to Denver, now he's going apeshit. Cutler is one of the best prospects at his position in his draft class, however for us to get him, we are going to have to pay MONEY, and sacrifice making a dynasty with our draft. If I were the GM, I would be tempted but I would not marginalize the potential success of this team for ONE player, when our recievers are also mediocre at best. Our team is young, Revis, Rhodes, Washington, Mangold, Brick, Keller, Harris. If we were to draft several WR, DL/DE, DB, and they prodcue at the level of the aforementioned players, we would have an amazing foundation that other teams would covet. 2010 is the year in which we should address the QB situation, not this year.
It's a starting point my friend. In negotiation you can always go up you can't come down. If the damage to that relationship is done his asking price becomes negotiable. No organization, especially one with a rookie head coach wants this kind of distraction.
The Colts had more porblems than just the D in 2001, he also lost Edge. The Colts D was ranked 23rd in 2006 and they went 12-4, last year the Cards D was 28th and Kurt Warner led them to a div title. In 2 full seasons w/ Cutler Denver has been 21st and 16th in points. That's not great. Manning's O was 2nd in yards in '01 but also 2nd in points, last year Cutler's O was 2nd in yards(who cares?) but they were 16th in points.
Cutler is one of the best young QB's in the NFL today. All the guys you mentioned besides Cutler in your post are question marks. Clemens I think gets a bad rap but he hasnt impressed either. Ratliff and Ainge have not thrown a pass in a regular season game. And all the QB prospects in 2010 are just that. Prospects. Cutler is only 25 years old and has gotten off to a good start in his NFL career. Guys like him are not usually available. If the Jets got him they wouldnt have to worry about the QB posistion for the next 10 years. I dont see the Jets getting Cutler but if he is available they should make an attempt to.
The answer is none. Thats why Sour will not respond to you. He makes inane statements and never comes along to back them up when questioned. H'e the poster boy for gutless hit and run posting.
