They always talk about that he is getting only 1.7 million this year but never say that he got his money upfront last year. If you average the last two years, he did really well.

So, is this all the extra money people keep referring to when they say Kendall got the money up front? Is there something not accurate in this? Seems to me the Jets should give him the million and shut up about it.

"Kendall made $3million in each of his first two years. He was due to make $3million in the third year and $4.5 million in each of the last two years. When the Jets reworked his contract after the 2005 season, they added $300,000 to his '06 pay and then cut his salary to $1.7 million this year, $2 million in 2008 and added on an additional year at $2.3 million in 2009. None of that money is guaranteed.

Kendall insists when he reworked the deal with GM Mike Tannenbaum, they had an understanding that the Jets would get him back to the $3million level if he played well in 2006. Kendall did his part in the Jets' revival under Mangini. He started 14 games and played between left tackle D'Brickashaw Ferguson and center Nick Mangold, the Jets' rookie No.1 picks. Kendall was a mentor to both and the Jets admit he had a very good season as they made the playoffs.

Kendall then asked the Jets to bump him back to the $3million level this year, minus the extra $300,000 they gave him in 2006. That means he wants a $1 million raise, getting him to $2.7 million, a bargain considering the way the market has exploded for guards the last two years."

What about the signing bonus that came with restructuring? I know that's not considered his 'salary', but it's still cash money homey. Instead of ignoring it, it should be counted as part of how much he got paid.

Kendall's original contract with the Jets did not include a signing bonus. When he restructured, he was awarded a signing bonus with guaranteed money. There is your extra money.
