The Jets treated Abe and Mawae great. They gave Mawae his unconditional release early enough for him to make a great deal elswhere. They could have held on to him until training camp and dealt him to a team for a 6th or 7th later. Abe wanted to see what his real value was, the Jets allowed him to get the best deal he could and made a deal. The Jets have a major problem signing FA's because they train in LI and play in NJ. Once we move the trainig facility to NJ near the new stadium we will be a more attractive team to FA's. They can settle their families near the practice facility and have a life.
Could not agree with you more on the stadium. Obviously, all FA's are looking for the money but the fact that the Jets have an almost comical stadium situation has to come into the players minds. Can you imagine if the WSS was approved. If I was a player and being offered fair market value and the WSS was where I was goiing to play. I would be asking "where do I sign"!. KMA Sheldon.
Hard to say what the WSS would have meant. I think to some players they would have loved it, to others tax implication and family may have had a negative impact. I do think having the training facility and the stadium both in the same State with very good housing available in close proximity to both will be a plus in signing veterans with families.
Runyan said all along in order to leave Philly he was going to have to be blown away and offered ALOT more than waht Philly would offer and Philly decided to spend a little more after they lost out on Bentley.
