Gio ran a very respectable 4.5, and 19 reps Quick, good instincts, and good pass catcher. Seems like a very nice round 2 value if there. Geno Smith is also representing himself well. 4.59 time for a pocket passer is intriguing. Also maturity and work ethic gaining high praise. I have a feeling he is gone before the 9....too many teams need a QB. Jets should at least take a look though and be prepared to take or pass on him should he fall to 9..
MJD is 5'7", 208. Some times shorter is better because defensive players lose sight of you in lateral pursuit.
No argument there; just pointing out he measured 2 inches shorter than what he was listed as. His arms look crazy short as well.
Well yes, that is what the combine is- the underwear olympics. Obviously there are other parts to the combine, but I would say the 40 is a big factor for skill position players. I mean almost a 4.8 for Stepfan Taylor is pretty bad. I expected players like Joseph Randle and Andre Ellington to run better than that... Its obviously not the true telling of a good RB, but its most definitely worth noting. Also Ray Rice at 5'8 and Doug Martin at 5'9... I think Gio has a good chance of being there at our 2nd round pick. He definitely has his flaws, but I think he would fit really well here. Eddie Lacy will probably be the first RB off the board.
If you way that long, he'll be gone..... The guy is a tremendous football player, and had only one year Asa starter, so he's low mileage. It's a position of need , he can fit the WCO, he's a 3 down back, and a HUGE upgrade over the guy you're losing. And he's looking good today, just like he did at the Senior Bowl. He destroyed LSU. Almost single handed ly, and according to these guys, eecially in the fourth quarter. You have to have a symbiotic relationship between BPA, and Need. We're probably going to go OLB in the first. 39, is not too high for your franchise RB. * note, the NFL hot 100 has him at 93 on the list so you MAY be ale to wait till 69, but starting dynamic RB is a big position of need, unless you really think Powell is the guy, and want to risk someone at the bottom of two be willing to factor in intangibles and make a smaller reach. Ray Rice went in the 3rd, Alfred Morris the sixth...if you'd have taken either of those guys at 39, there would have been much talk about reaching...but who would have been right?
Yes, of course, I just think Eddie Lacy is a better overall talent... A team may like Gio more because maybe that type of player is what they need and take him first. I would love either one on this team. I think Lacy is going to produce right off the bat, while Gio might be worked in like Lesean McCoy. He had a solid combine, 4.5 40, 202 is solid for his size... Didnt get to watch much of the positional drills though so I cant really speak for that. Ray Rice coming out had a very similar body type at 5'8 200. He ran a little faster, but not by much. One thing that I know will translate well is his instincts as a runner... Thats why he's so good imo. See, I dont see him as a franchise RB. I think he's a good prospect, but surely not a great one. I think he's a rotational RB that could be a good fit in a WCO, but Im not sure about an every down back. He could become one, but I dont see a 2nd round player. Like I said, at 39, the only RBs I would draft and think have value are Bernard and Lacy. IMO, anybody else is a reach. I think Gillislee, Franklin, Ball, Bell, Michael, Randle, Taylor and Jamison are all on a very similar level. Not that many teams need RB's, and I guarantee at least 3 quarters of those guys are there in a 3rd. Then you also have guys like Kniles Davis, Kenjan Barner, Ellington and Lattimore. For me, Gillislee just mixes in with those names, he doesnt really stand out of them. I would be happy with him in round 3 or 4, but in the 2nd, better players will be available.
I really like the idea of making Tavon Austin a 3rd down back/ slot/return guy.You wanna talk about instant playmaker? I view him as a trading down possibility. Say pick 20 on.
Yeah him and Patterson are extremely dynamic. If we trade Revis, he would definitely be a great target with that pick. His quickness is 2nd to none.
I've been trying to figure out a way to grab both of them. I don't think even Sanchez could screw up w/ that kind of skill group.
Gil Brandt at NFL grades Gio at 84, Gilleslee at 70, which the top and bottom of the 2~3 range, eventual starter. Gilleslie does not have a history of knee problems, lower mileage...and would be a good fit in the WCO. I'd rather reach, then spend the pick...and spend the next four years dealing with a RB with sore knees. Franchise back is the wrong term, I should have just said starting. I,was high on Barer to, though my concern was that his real success was system related. Then I read ths... ] Apparently we've already drafted him :rofl2:
Well we could grab Patterson at 9 and then Austin with that Revis pick... That sure as hell would make this offense more dynamic and would definitely "scare" a defense, despite who is at QB. I've said it a bunch of times, but I would love to have a completely offensive dominated draft. Its what this team needs, especially if Rex is going to stay with this team- he can make a top 10 defense out of about anything. Players like Patterson, Austin, Wheaton, Bernard, Lacy, Eifert, Jordan Reed would really add a whole new element to this team. If we could get a combination of 3 of those players, I would be extremely happy...
Okay, but 95% of scouts have Gio as their number one or two RB... Shall we throw that out the window to help your argument? I wouldnt really worry too much about his knee. He had an ACL tear 2-3 years ago, and from what I can see on tape, is 100% healed. He had a little "discomfort" in his other knee (not the one he tore) and missed two games this year. I wouldnt put too much thought into that because its not the same knee. He came back from that and performed like a top 2 RB in the nation. Cromartie tore his ACL in college, obviously everyone knows AP... Jamaal Charles too, RB Thompson from FSU tore his last year and came back looking great... As for Gio's "mileage", they have very similar amount of touches and that shouldnt even be a factor.
One has a knee history, the other doesn't. Right he tore one, then missed games with soreness in the other..and that doesn't concern you? Walter football has him at Second, MG at 5. And there's no denying his ability. But knee issues (including soreness) would scare me off of a guy that's moving up to 300 plus carries against much better hitters. You have to admit that's a concern....
