Sorry man. It's going to suck ass, trust me.

I just saw at lunch something that ripped my heart out.

Peach Snapple (I didn't have the heart to look at any other flavor,) my favorite flavor, and probably my favorite sweet drink ever besides Mystic Grape Strawberry, contains HFCS! :eek:hmy:

I have 300+ lbs of Olympic plates, a multi station bench and rack, and home made deadlift platform in my garage....the Bench/Weights/Rack was a fathers day gift 3 or 4 years ago...I've been using a couple dumbells, a curling bar, and pushups & situps in the sunroom, while I keep trying to make time to clean out my garage.

NICE! That's awesome man. I wish I had the room to do that, but that would mean giving up the den, and that's my refuge.

The bench will be in there though. The bike is now. We switched rooms a couple weeks ago, and I wound up moving the den into what amounts to a closet. But the kids, since there's a third coming now, got the master bedroom, my wife wanted the next biggest one for the bedroom, and now the den is in what was our bedroom. (I actually had the master bedroom for the den for a couple years. Pretty good racket I had going on there. Ah well...)

If I had a private garage I'd definitely have it set up as a weight room by now. Unfortunately, since we're in an apartment, we share the garage space with the neighbors. :shit:

Anyway, nice setup bro. Why bother with the gym? Get off your ass and clean up your room!

We are all doomed. Even Heinz ketchup has HFCS.

I actually like to go to the gym for two reasons.

It's easier to get your ass out of the house at Zero Dark thirty, if you are getting in the car to go to the gym, and there is also the eye candy factor.

Looking at 20 cute asses, when torturing yourself on the treadmill or the elliptical glider helps take your mind off the pain.

I have real kick ass music selections for interval training on the elliptical.
    (one of my favorite activities..)

24 hours ago and Prelude to Madness from Hall of the Mountain King by Savatage will make you feel like your lungs are being dragged out through your nose..

Very nice job Alio. I think I'm probably in a different age catagory than most and I find certain exercisizes that tend to be explossive also tend to put me out of commission. Because of that I do extended Cardio and keep the explosive movement exercize down to twice a week. I try and run, bike or hit an elipticle machine for 40 minutes 5 times a week with 3 to 5 miles as my goal. I do run hills which does strengthen the legs.

The key to weight maintance is diet. I did read and went on South Beach religously about 3 years ago. I got down to the mid 160's and I'm about 6'. I felt good but I found it to restricting. I'm okay around 180 would love to get back to 175 but I decided food is important to me and I can live with an extra 5 to 10, it's when it becomes 15 to 20 that I start cutting back on refined carbs.

Hahaha, I hear you man! I just know myself. I'll never make it to the gym, so I make sure I'm on a program at home I can follow. Good for you, though! I wish I had it in me. I'm sure the eye candy makes for much more enthusiastic workouts.

    Hey winston.

Look, I think I may have come off too harsh on cardio. There's nothing inherently wrong with it. Exercise of any kind is FAR better than none at all.

If that's what you can do without a ridiculous amount of pain, then that's the thing for you.

I agree that diet is key, but it doesn't need to be incredibly restrictive, IMO. If you eat decent food, exercise daily, and don't gorge at meals, then food doesn't have to be the enemy. I love my food too, and I'm not willing to sacrifice eating things I love (like pasta.) So I eat smaller portions, do my exercise, and put as little artifical crap in my stomach as I can.

Congrats to you for being in shape as well my friend!

My movement to get back in shape started on Saturday with a nearly 20-mile hike. This summer I'll be training to get ready to join my school's crew team in the fall.

If I do, at least I'll be guaranteed a diet of berries and leaves.

    Now THAT'S a high-fiber diet!
    --------------------

Anyway, this morning I want to stress the "rest rule." I only got 4 hours of sleep Sunday night into Monday, and I haven't caught up yet. My muscles are SORE right now. I can barely life my arms from extremely sore shoulders. If you're going to push your body, you need to get it proper rest in between.
    --------------------

So where are the progress posts? One or two guys have posted that they've tried out the program. Let's see what's up at this point guys!

Jtuds, where are you at? This whole thing started with you. Let's hear it man.

    I'm still loving the program.

I have been really sore since i started on Saturday I believe. the soreness is going away though.

the places that are still sore are the places that had i had not used for this type of activity in probably about a year. the two sore places are my abs, and my left bicep.

other than just some minor soreness left, and hopefully those two areas wont be very far behind.

so i'm really loving it so far and once i get rid of all this soreness in my muscles i plan on doing some sprinting exercises my high school lacrosse coach used to make us do. those things sucked but they kept me from being fat while eating shit all the time.

Great to hear! Obviously, the soreness sucks (as I mentioned, I have it today, though I did a bodyweight workout this morning [pushups, dips, squats, lunges, crunches, bicycle crunches, jumping jacks,] and I feel a little better.) It gets better though. Again, get rest for your body. It helps a lot.

Of course those muscles that are out of shape the most are going to be the worst. But soon, you'll get the "good soreness" and that's a great feeling.

I'm glad to hear you like the program. Obviously, I wanted as many people as possible to get involved, even if not necessarily following my program. I've just become a big proponent of getting in shape, even in my regular life. My family, friends, and co-workers all have to hear me gush over the benefits. Fortunately, it seems people aren't getting pissed off. Rather, they seem to be listening a bit. (I guess when you can actually see the results on a person you know, it's a little easier to accept.)
    ----------------

So what are the sprints you mentioned? I'm really trying to encourage people to post new exercises here. Keeping the routine varied is one of the keys to the program, so any new exercises are a welcome addition to the mix!

ANY new information is welcome. People have been posting about things like ketchup, and I think that's GREAT! This thread's whole purpose is to share information. Whatever it might be, from food info, to exercises, to whole routines, share it!

there are 3 that i plan on rotating in and out of. to do them best it would be good to have 4 cones or any type of marker you can place on the ground.

first one-set up 3 cones in a line about 4-5 strides apart from each other. start in the middle. start by pivoting to whichever side you prefer and sprint to that cone, touch the ground turn and run to the far cone touch the ground turn etc. i like to go back and fourth 3 times for each set of sprints. 5-7 sets of those are usually good.

second one- old fashioned suicides i'm sure anyone who has played any sport in high school has done this. set up a starting cone, and then 3 cones anywhere from like 10-20 feet apart from each other. start at the the starting cone, run out to the first cone turn and run back to the beginning, from there go to the second cone and back, third cone and back. a few of those will get your heart going like crazy.

third one- this one is more for the people who like interval type work. take four cones and set up a pretty big diamond, by big i mean about 7-10 strides apart depending on how much you wanna kill yourself. start off at any cone and sprint to the next cone, from there jog to the next cone, then sprint, then jog etc.. continue this pattern around the diamond. my coach would usually have us do this for 5 minutes at the end of every practice, the longest we ever did for was 15 minutes. the 5 minutes was in full pads after a full practice, the 15 minutes was without pads on. i'm gonna start out with 5 minutes and see how it feels after i'm done, but depending on stamina it can be raised/lowered. honestly i think any normal person will feel winded after about 3 minutes and the rest is just how far you want to push yourself
