I would say to do about 4-5 sets of ~60% of your max every other day. So if you're max is currently 18 do 4 sets of 11 to start. Take 2-3 mins off between sets too. if you can't get that 4th set off just drop your later sets down to 10 or 9, eventually working your way up to 5 full sets. Once you're at 5 sets of 11 then up it to 12 and so on. Also, re-test your max every week - it should obviously be going up. This will keep a progressive tension overload without burning you out like going to failure would. And like you mentioned - bodyweight exercises are always easier when you're lighter. Best of luck, man.
i havent even read the whole thing but the first 2 posts are great. i realized i needed to change something when i was filling up my recycling bin more than my garbage bin... if there is that much packaging i am eating too much processed food. i will add to what you are saying by suggesting people at least look into eating organic food. there is something to be said about fruit you can peel and it doesnt turn brown... its not natural. the things that are added to fruit, vegetables and meat are amazingly bad for you. i know i know it costs more, but what in the world is worth spending a little extra money on than putting stuff into your body that isnt filled with all sorts of chemicals?
I've been on this crazy workout kick, and organic meat is soooooo much better. The main reason, the diet of the animals are different. It's easy to notice with beef. Organic cows are feed grass while regular cows are fed corn and shit to make them fat.
I'm starting my Summer cut tomorrow. Starting a bit close for comfort but what can ya do. Tryna cut around 15 I guess.
So what's the theory behind cutting? Is it just basically bulking up and not caring about fat or diet, then all of a sudden you restrict the calories to burn the fat down to the muscle? Do you lose muscle like that, and how many pounds per week loss do you aim for
no no - u have to trim before u build, get down to the lowest possible weight for ur body size/style, then add on muscle - an ounce here and there.
I mean ideally everyone wants to stay shredded year round but for most it never really pans out that way. People eat above maintenance to add size or life gets in the way, so most people end up gaining fat along with muscle. So it's pretty common cycle to see people bulk for the winter (when your clothing covers you up more) and cut for Summer. Yeah most people lose some lean mass and strength in the process, but the extent to which it happens depends on your training, nutrition, and the overall rate of extremity of your diet. Lotta people try to aim for 1-2 pounds a week.
I've been so lazy for a while now. I gotta lose 10 pounds to get to where I was last summer (was 165, although I was also more muscular then as well). I have less than 3 months before I go on vacation, although I'd like to do it in 2 months (with summer coming and all). I miss going to the gym and doing squats and deadlifts, but unfortunately there are no cheap gyms here with free weights. Freakin $70 a month is the cheapest around. All of the $10-$30 a month gyms don't have free weights. My deadlift was pretty awesome for someone my size too. I was ORM at around 405 lbs. (chalk on hands, no gloves, no belt) only weighing 165 lbs. My squat, if I recall was somewhere around 360 lbs as well. My upper body was always lagging far behind my lower body. I have a bench at home with dumbbells, so I don't have any reason to bother with a gym. Really, I've been lazy with cardio. I like doing jump rope (awesome workout btw if you haven't tried), but unless it's warm outside I don't have the motivation to do it. My ceilings aren't high enough to do it inside. I'm lucky that I at least play hockey once a week.
Northern Westchester. I've looked. It's either expensive Sports Clubs, Planet Fitness, or one of those 24 hour places. Unless you take option #1, then none of them have free weights. Not unless I feel like driving half an hour to go to the gym anyway.
Just wondering, where do you play hockey? I've been playing at least twice a week since I am 13 .. i am almost 30 now.. hmy:
Not the one near me. They have dumbbells, sure. However, otherwise they only have smith machines. Plus PF doesn't allow dead lifting. It's in their rules. I guess watching men lift massive amounts of weight is damaging for some people's egos. I play in Brewster Ice Arena. Where I am there's really only two close by rinks. Brewster Ice Arena and Westchester Skating Academy (Elmsford). Both have adult hockey leagues. If you live further north or east, Danbury also has a league.
Bad ass lifts Leon. I'm at 170 right now working on strength and I'm lifting 345 on dead lift and 260 on back squat for sets of five. ' For BigCountry's comment, I would just try doing body weight work everyday and see how you feel. Try going to your max on a couple of sets or incorporate Silent's ideas but you would probably be able to get away with doing something everyday and feeling fine. Don't over think it on body weight stuff.
