There's no reason for this thread to not be on the front page. It's the only thread I've ever started that was at all successful!

Started on a strength muscle building program.

It's been fun. I've never really lifted for strength. Just broke the 300 lb market on my deadlift and I'm breaking prs in every other major lift every time. I'm sure this will slow down soon but I'm enjoying it right now.

Man I did the fucking stairmaster for the 1st time yesterday and I wanted to tap out so bad. I ended up doing 55 floors in 15 minutes which I would assume isn't that bad considering I did 30 minutes on the eliptical beforehand.

I hit the gym two days in a row. Today I even walked there (almost a mile) and walked/ran back.

    I'm sore all over.

The trouble is that while I've been working out this summer, I have not seen results. The weight remains the same, just as during the semester when I wasn't working out much. I'm not getting any stronger, despite a lot of weights.

I think there's something wrong with my body. No matter what I eat or how much I exercise, I stay the same.

I've been doing the stronglifts program for 8 weeks now, and I'm loving it and seeing some definite results. I'm not trying to push it (it's free, the guy who started it is from the bill starr method of thinking and doesn't make any money off it). Basically you work out 3 times a week, and alternate between two workout routines. The workouts are 5 exercises where you mostly do 5x5 sets, and everything is free weight or body weight exercises. You start with the bar and add 5lbs each workout until you stall, and then you deload and try again.

I haven't seen anyone at my gym try it, you can tell right away because no one else does inverted rows. Anyone here tried it?

    Arthur Saxon.

About to lift a kettle bell off the floor, for a total weight of 448 lbs.

I believe the Kettlebell weighs 98.

Yanked 365 off the floor yesterday for a P.B.

Topped out at 355 X 3 years ago, just got back to training it using Pavel's Power to the People workout.

(3 Exercises, Deads, One hand Press and a nod to Curls, though they aren't really necessary)

Got right back to 65 lbs in the one hand (that's two 10's on the Olympic bar)...

40 lbs to go on the dead and I'll be happy.

    Damn Hobbes! Kick ass!

Honestly, I had been lazy for a few weeks and did almost no working out at all in late-May to about 2 weeks ago. Lost a lot of strength/muscle, and gained quite a bit of weight around the belly. That's what happens when you stop burning but don't stop eating I guess.

I was pretty ashamed of myself a couple weeks ago looking in the mirror. Now, I'm by no means fat, but I'm pissed off at myself for being so lazy and letting myself fall out of shape so quickly. I've been getting back into it the past couple weeks though, so I should be in better shape by mid-summer.

That's what got me going. Hadn't lost too much strength or Endurance, but the middle wasn't looking good at all, and to be honest at 46 the chances to get it right are slipping away....with two weeks at the shore coming up and it being Pool season not a good thing.

Spent 40 bucks on the GNC 7 day fast loss diet starter kit which makes life a little easier...now I'm back on all cylinders.

I'm also almost completely off beer for now.

Yeah, I hear you. What's the GNC 7 day thing?

I really should give up beer, but it's so hard in the summer. Wine is fine in winter, but a cold beer after work in the summer is heavenly.

    1 box.
    http://www.gnc.com/product/index.jsp?productId=4004135

14 powder packets, 7 vitamin packets, 7 doses of cleanser.

You take the Cleanser before Bed.

    Vitamin pack in the morning.
(Now I go to the gym in the am so that makes it easy)

    Packet for Breakfast,

Another 3 hours later (in the brochure they allow some fruit with it, but I wanted to get under 1200 calories) at this point calorie intake is 360 cals. leaving 840 for lunch and dinner.

I was using Black Bear Potato with Egg salad (2/3 cup = 260 calories, though i was having 4 table spoons or so with a glass of Diet Ginger ale) VERY FILLING, though high fat content...MAYO...)

That takes you right up to dinner time. A little salad and some protein and you're kosher.

The cleanser and the vitamins (contains a water pill too) help deal with the bloat, plus the psychological effect of shelling out the 40 bucks helps, as even though I bust my ass in the gym, I trained even harder for that 7 days.

Hey Ive been the same way as I just got back from a one month vacation where I was enjoying myself. And now its so fuckin hot when I get back plus holidays means i have been drinking like a madman so that hasnt helped. I am 235-240 pounds although I dont look it because im 6'6 however its all in the gut and mostly because of beer. What I am doing now is increasing cardio as I still have an overall muscular look in my arms and shoulders. So Im about to go biking today as between that, swimming and running i do at least one a day now and I am on a chicken and brown rice diet which sounds miserable but if you thro tzaziki sauce(white sauce from gyro stands) on it, it really doesnt taste bad.

Also another strength building thing for my back and my arms is interesting. I decided to expirement as I read about guys like Brock Lesnar and Herschel Walker and how they got stronger when younger. So I got an old garbage bin, went to a nearby park and collected a shitload of rocks. Now I fill that bin up with rocks so i can still pick it up but must work hard to keep carrying it. I just walk around carrying it and then do different exercises while holding it. Yesterday I did this and climbed ropes I hooked around a tree and today my back is feeling it. If only I could cut out beer now it would help.

I give you guys a ton of credit for finding the time to do this. I REALLY want to get motivated and start working out again, but I'm sleeping like 5 hours a night with my current job.

If it wasn't for my wife I'd look like a snake that recently swallowed a buffalo.

Hobbes, I don't know if I can get by on packets for meals. God Bless you doing it though. I need solid food.

Big Country, just be careful. Don't go overdoing it then hurting yourself. Then you're just laid up and unable to do anything for a while, which is only going to put you in a worse position for working out.

fenwyr, that's where my problem started. I've been getting significantly less sleep lately (sometimes 4 hours a night) and I just couldn't gather the energy in the morning to even do pushups. I kept telling myself I'd manage to get sleep the next night, and get back on track again. Finally a couple weeks ago I realized that sleep isn't going to be available, and I have to take care of business. It's hard, but I'm forcing myself. Good luck to you man. The positive side of your situation is that at least you're working. Better to be a little overweight and eating than thin from starvation.

You get used to it quickly.

Plus the duration is short (7 days).. (though now that I'm done with the box cereal
or oatmeal can be brought in for even less calories.)
