I root for failure all around on this one, least of all because of Haynesworth. Yeah, he stepped on that guy's face, but I still like him more than Shanahan or Dan Snyder.

    Update......it's getting uglier in Washington.......

    Albert Haynesworth disputes reports

    Associated Press

LANDOVER, Md. -- Albert Haynesworth took his most defiant stand yet against Mike Shanahan on Saturday night, saying the Washington Redskins coach underplayed the two-time All-Pro's medical condition in recent days and that he intends to boycott next year's offseason conditioning program as well.

Speaking after the Redskins' 23-3 loss to the Baltimore Ravens, Haynesworth also said that he shouldn't have been playing in the third quarter, when only backups were in the game.

Haynesworth stopped practicing early Tuesday at training camp and did not practice Wednesday or Thursday. Shanahan gave varying explanations for Haynesworth's idleness each day. The coach initially said Haynesworth "just was sick," then said the cause was dehydration, then finally said it was "more of a headache than anything else."

Haynesworth said he had something more, but he didn't specify what.

"You'll have to ask them, but I guess they'll tell you 'headaches' again," said Haynesworth, emphasizing the word by holding his fingers in the air to simulate quotation marks. "It was part of it, but it wasn't all of it. They left out a whole lot of stuff."

Why would the Redskins do that?

"I don't know. I guess make yourself look good, I don't know. Make me look bad for not going to their offseason conditioning program," Haynesworth said. "But, I mean, next year I'm not coming either. I'll be on my trainer again, and I'll get back in the same shape I'm in, and feel good about myself."

It was Haynesworth's boycott of the Redskins' offseason program that drew Shanahan's ire all spring. Haynesworth stayed away in part because he wanted to work with his own trainer, but also because he wanted a trade so he wouldn't have to play nose tackle in a 3-4 defense.

Because he didn't take part in the offseason work, Haynesworth was required by Shanahan to pass a conditioning test in order to practice at training camp. Haynesworth failed on his first attempts and didn't pass the test until the 10th day of camp.

Once he started practicing, Haynesworth was made to work with the second-stringers. He played with the backups in the first preseason game a week ago and again Saturday night, entering in the second half after all the starters had departed.

"Third quarter. I'm a ninth-year pro," Haynesworth said. "I don't think I should have been out there in the third quarter. But, for having 'headaches' again, that was what they wanted to do."

The Redskins said Shanahan will respond to Haynesworth's statements on Monday, when the team resumes practice. Addressing reporters before Haynesworth spoke, Shanahan reiterated his stance on Haynesworth's place on the team.

"He wasn't going to play with the first or second team for obvious reasons," Shanahan said. "He's going to have to earn his way to play with that group."

Shanahan isn't going to last long in Washington if he continues to pull shit like this. Hey, lets bench our best d player because he'd rather work out with his personnal trainer than us.

It's going to be a long season in Washington, I can't wait to see the fail train roll in.

I think Shanahan is humiliating this asswipe and it's fantastic. I hope he pounds him into the point that he quits and then the Skins can sue him and get all that money back. If there was ever a guy who didn't deserve a contract this is the one. You give 100 mill to Manning, Brady, Brees, and that's about it. Certainly not a guy who wasn't even the best defensive player in the league.

He's not the one who offered the $100 million. I certainly wouldn't say, "I don't think I'm worth that, but thanks for the offer".

Basically, I'm of the opinion Shanahan is a huge douchebag and Haynesworth is slighty less of a douchebag. Haynesworth isn't the one trying to make his players look like babies because they didn't want to participate in optional team workouts.

Haynesworth may be the biggest douchebag in the NFL, I don't see Shanahan as the villain here. The guy clearly doesn't give a shit... he got his money and he's done.

agreed. Haynesworth isnt their best defensive player, he probably would be if he gave a shit, but he clearly doesn't. He checked out the day he signed his deal, and as a result for sucking, has made 40+million dollars all ready, its hilarious to watch shanny bitchslap him constantly through the media. I love it. Oh and btw, if Revis were to get paid, and checkout, i sure hope that Rex would do the same to him.

Don't agree at all. Shanahan has a history of being a fucking asshole who has no respect for his players. Haynesworth obviously isn't worth all the fucking money he was thrown, but that's not the issue. The issue is Shanahan is trying to be a bully, and that fucking shit dosen't work in this NFL. Players want someone they can relate to or that respects them. Thats why Rex is as popular as he is.

Shanahan wants to try to humilate Haynesworth. That's a pussy move. In the end, Hayensworth will win. He'll make more money on this one contract than Shanahan will ever sniff, and he'll in all likelyhood outlast Shanahan in Washington.

I'm guessing rhabdomyolysis is something that could be found in a physical? Haynesworth had to go through some sort of medical evaluation before being signed to that big contract.

It's so rare nobody would be looking for it. Besides I think they are saying it developed when they had him trying to pass that conditioning test.

Report: Divide between Haynesworth, Shanahan widens

Forced to play extensively Thursday, lineman dogged it Brad Biggs

In the always changing world of Albert Haynesworth and the Washington Redskins, things have apparently turned from worse to whatever is a step beyond that.

A week after Haynesworth joked with reporters that he and coach Mike Shanahan were going to get together for cigars and dinner, there are growing concerns about whether or not the defensive lineman will even be in uniform for the team’s season opener Sept. 12 against the Dallas Cowboys.

Citing three sources who are dialed into the situation, the Washington Post’s Jason Reid reports the club has increased concerns about Haynesworth’s “commitment to the team” after the veteran was forced to play nearly the entire fourth preseason game at Arizona on Saturday.

In a game Haynesworth would typically see very little playing time, Shanahan kept the $100 million man on the field throughout. It didn’t go well. Haynesworth was “awful” according to two team sources who Reid contacted. He gave a lousy effort and was clearly unhappy with Shanahan’s decision to ride him.

This is a lose/lose situation right now. Shanahan is exerting his power over Haynesworth at every turn and while it looked like progress had been made, this could throw things completely off balance heading into the regular season. Now, the Redskins could consider de-activating him for the opener, a move that could drive an even bigger wedge between the coach and the team’s highest-paid player. Is that what they need? He looked solid against the New York Jets in the third preseason game. Washington is better with a committed Haynesworth. You have to wonder which side will act out next

I'm predicting he face-stomps another player again then slowly fades into obscurity.

You get paid tens of millions of dollars up front, and the coach wants you to play some preseason ball, you play. Don't be a deterrent to the team.

agreed he has been paid 40 million dollars for about a season of work,

If they asked me to start selling hot dogs at the game, I would gladly be doing that. This guy is an idiot. but I love watching it happen.
