If I was smart id make that "Freshman Daughter Drop Off" sign with the down arrow into a shirt. Id make millions off of that.
It's not well reported, but Albany had a significant problem with so-called third generation gangs, but problems arise less frequently outside their neighborhoods (South End, Arbor Hill). Normal city smarts will keep her safe. Stay away from the parks (all hours), the obviously bad areas of Delaware Ave, travel with company, and she'll be fine. ACP is a pretty intense program. Boarding the first year is the right call, but if she's got some close friends, it's a better value to get an apartment. When that time comes, stay away from the student ghetto area of Pine Hills. In terms of places to go, Cafe Madison is great for breakfast/brunch, and ACP isn't far from the Spectrum movie theatre, which shows a lot of art house cinema. In terms of other restaurants, there's the Ginger Man, Bull and Barrel BBQ, the Pump Station, and Kuma Ani. Basically, whatever fits her fancy. ACP produces excellent pharmacists. It is a demanding program, but the payoffs are extraordinary. Feel free to PM if you need more info. Best of luck.
Thank you Noodle. She has ventured out a little to find a couple of resturants and her favortie, Dunkin donuts close to campus.
