His play did drastically decline last year, especially when it came to pass blocking. He would have been a great locker room leader and it would have been nice to groom Ducasse for at least a year under his veteran leadership. Still not worth the amount of money we would have had to pay him.
I was happy when we had him, and he wasnt bad for us(til the end of the 2009-10season). Happy he is gone, and happy for the experience/leadership he showed, or passed down to our current guys on the O-Line.
I'm no offensive line expert, but I noticed a significant increase in Brick and Mangold's play (mostly Brick, Mangold has always been solid) with Faneca in between the two. I would think that Mangold and Brick can have a similar effect on Slauson or Ducasse.
Good Post... Faneca was an AWESOME signing by the Jets and he taught Mangold and Brick the ropes... Now it's time for the Jets to move on and bring some youth to the OL.. THAT, my friends, is how you keep an OL good and how you continue to build a team.... And I'll vene debate how good his run blocking is - IMO, he's good in space and where he can use his wealth of knowledge to outsmart players but, man on man in the tranches, I'm thinking the youth the Jets have is an upgrade... I think we improve in short yardage and improve in pass protection. BRAVO.
