Thats weird that KFFL even posted that. I just saw footage of him on SNY, running drills.

If you want to criticize the team for being so secretive, be my guest. I just don't see this as one of those cases.

Dayum!!! My cover is blown!!

No, I'm just a bit tired of this air of secrecy going on here for a team that's rebuilding. I could see if this team was really a contender but it isn't. Things that require this level of secrecy sometimes go bad in a big way. By controlling the information, you can manipulate the opinion.

There's times to play it close to the vest. There are other times that one can provide information without damaging what you're trying to build. Mangini might want to learn the difference since this is his first time in the big chair.

The whole cloak and dagger routine is old man. Clear speak followed by concrete action would go alot farther..

This will play itself out at the end of the season won't it... Then we'll perhaps get some detail as to what went right and wrong. Hopefully, accountability will also be included as opposed to the Herm Edwards era.. Then again, perhaps Mangini will just skip the press conference all together..

HAH, C, I want to be with you on this one, and I'm usually a much less of a pansy on things of this stripe, but I'm good with the time off. Between the time zone changes, hunting for new digs, setting up new bank accounts, figuring out where the %$*# the Stop & Shop is located, and trying to negotiate the local press, I'm okay with extended naptime.

Jack, that's cool with me man.

I don't have as much a problem with the time off as I do with the doublespeak. I just don't get the game anymore. If Barlow ain't ready yet and needs time to ramp up? Say so.

I'm just done with all this subtefuge..

    :)

Just wait. It ain't even BEGUN, the doublespeak we'll be seeing. Seems like Mangini is trying to be the Uber-Belichick. I'm a Boston local, so my daily newspaper is filled with Patriots news. The stuff the Patriots do with injury reports is about to be replayed in New York - times ten. "Probables" turning into "Questionables" overnight. "Strained MCLs" being reported as "Leg Injuries" - and so forth. It's like a damn game to Belichick, and I imagine it will be to Mangini, also.

I remember a few years ago, Bob Kraft suffered a heart attack, or had angioplasty, or whatever. Belichick reported it to the media during one of his press conferences, and one of the beat writers (to whom I have to give credit for wit) asked, "So are we calling that a chest injury?" Gone are the days of the goofy Hermish tales that I loved so much.

You're in for a long season if you think it's old already and we haven't even played one regular season game yet.

Yanno Jack, I'm beginning to see a double standard being applied here. When Herm gave a guy time off, he was considered "soft". When Mangini does it, its all good. When Herm gave a rambling press conference complete with Hermisms, it was considered more BS from the HC. When Mangini gives beige press releases, its "being smart" and "not revealing anything". No one ever asked exactly WHO we're so scared of that we have to be 100% evasive in any and all dealings with the press. Especially since we're not contenders anyway!!!

If Mangini doesn't produce with this supersecret style of coaching, the New York Media will have a feeding frenzy not seen in these parts since the days of Kotite..

The guy didn't sleep for two days. I don't care who you are, that's rough. Plus, let's say he wound up practicing today with still no sleep. When you're not alert, there's potential for disaster, either him injuring himself or someone else.

Is it really worth it to take that risk when it's not necessary?

I had expected better than the Herm "song and dance" routine this year. I guess the evasive, "don't believe anything I'm saying" routine is an improvement..

God truly created the Jets to test the faithful...

I'm consistent about changing my mind whenever I get an itch one way or the other. :)

Can't say as I disagree with you, though, C. If everything falls to crap, we'll torture the guy for those things which today we praise.

But one thing I NEVER did, is criticize Herm's press conferences. I LIVED for those things. Horses in Central Park. . . dogs chasing cars. . . black cats . . . catching chickens. . . <sigh>. I find myself cruising by Chiefs boards, talking to strangers, just on the off-chance someone will tell me a story about how the third quarter of a football game is like a sale at Macy's, or a rack of ribs, or some such thing. I'm forlorn.

You make it sound like Barlow walked from Frisco to New York..

I must have missed the part where it was stated Barlow was awake for 48hrs. If he was, I'd have to ask WHY was he up for 2 days in the first place. He's got to know better than that. If not, we're in for a long season..

I have to ask this, what happens after say, 8 games. Mid season, is he gonna need a vacation?

You don't have to suit up to participate. He could be at Hofstra, learning the system via book and talking it up with Martin his hero. He could have called it an early day IF he was that tired. Barlow has 2 weeks to pick the system up or ride the pine until he does and that does the Jets very little good in the short run.

All the other stuff, the depth chart, hiding injuries etc, I'm not questioning you if you have a problem with that. i'm not a big fan of Mangini's press conferences myself. But giving Barlow a day off to rest because he'd been up for almost a whole day is not a crime. I don't care how physically gifted a guy is, you need rest. I just really fail to see an issue here.

The issue here is preparedness Kris. We already have a QB that's coming in rusty. Now, in addition to that, we'll have a starting RB that had better be a quick learner.

As far as all the 007/KGB stuff, as I stated earlier, I have a real problem with that. There shouldn't be 100% transparency but dayum, this is harkening back to the days of the Iron Curtain. Dissemination isn't the best way to build trust in a skeptical fanbase.

Cman, get used to it. Mangini is not going to give us many treats when he chats with reporters. We'll find out what we need to know on Sundays, and I'm fine with that, because having Herm made us the laughing stock of the NFL. I know it's a total swing of the pendulum, and maybe there is an in between place that would make us all happy, but I'll take the latter before the former.

As for Barlow, his world just got turned upside down. Missing a day of practice will mean nothing come opening day. He's been in 49er camp up until Friday, so he's in shape and his head is ready for the playbook, which he is probably sitting at home reading right now.

And we're not rebuilding, we're rebuilt. :p These are pro-athletes with pro-coaches. Stop selling them short before the season has even begun.

Like I said, I'm not even talking about everything else. I can see why you'd have an issue with how things are being run over there, but I'm not disputing that. I'm talking about the Barlow situation, and sure he's behind right now, but I can see why he may have needed a day off. With the reports from camp of Mangini having his players re-run drills until they do it exactly as he wants it done, the last thing I'm concerned about is him getting his players prepared. If he felt giving Barlow a day off was in his best interest, I really have nothing to go against that with other than empty speculation.

The Proof is in the pudding... An Old Truism Fen...

Mangini's penchant for subtefuge had better pay off or he will pay a dear price in the court of Public opinion. Not to mention the New York Media storm. Right now, he's spending "credibility" and hasn't won a single regular season game yet as a HC.

How are we supposed to believe in the coach when we can't believe what he says..?

For now, he get's the benefit of the doubt. I like the new CS so much better than what left, that I'm blinded by optimism. A few regular season losses and then BS spewed during press conferences will be a different story.
