Wow, so after getting both leagues right last year, this year the writers get neither? How in the world does Morneau get it? He was, at the very best, the 6th best candidate. And of course, no one can explain Howard over Pujols. If they only cared about stats, Hafner or Ortiz should've won it. All this decision shows is that the writers must have put about 10 names in a hat, and Morneau was lucky enough to have his named pulled out the most times.
Well the AL voters disgust with the DH doesn't help either, 54 HRs, 10 more than anyone else and he doesn't even get a first place vote.
Shade, STFU. YOU are the single biggest reason any of the fringe Yankee fans start shit in Mets threads on this board. To everyone else that has an opinion that matters, I would have been fine if Dye, Mauer, or Oritiz (in that order) won it over Jeter. Morneau should not have even been in the running. And there's no way Ryan Howard deserves the NL title over Pujols. This has become a raw stat award. Then again, it's become a raw stat league. I'm am losing all faith in sports this week.
http://www.baseballwriters.org/awards/2006/2006_AL_mvp.html WTF who gave A-rod a 5th place vote? Ortiz only gets 1 second place vote......
I actually should have been more clear. What I should have said was "raw stats over the course of a critical stretch run." Sure, his numbers for the year are fairly impressive. And yes, he helped his team get in late. However, Jeter, Dye, Mauer, and yes Ortiz, all helped their respective teams the entire season. Not one of them needed to "turn it on" late. They just revved the engine in March, and floored it when April began.
They really could let the fans vote. I can't see any harm in it. I mean, Gary Matthews and Mike Cameron got a vote?????
Having fans vote would be a disaster. The GM/Manager thing may be onto something, but some may hold grudges against players who may have spurned them at some point in their careers.
From FTC via Email... Fox is airing a new special. Derek Jeter, in his own words. "If I had won the MVP, this is how I would have done it."
The problem would be who would pick the 10? I like the idea of coaches and GMs (both) voting. That would give each player a fair amount of consideration. How many teams can one guy spurn, really? If he spurns more than one in his whole career, he probably isn't someone who deserves the MVP award anyway.
That's exactly what he wants. Come on, remember during and after the ALDS he and others tried spewing this. And I simply said to you, don't take him seriously, he just wants a rise. He's said like 5 things in this thread just trying oh so hard, and he got one reply from you, everyone else just lets him amuse himself... Let it be. It's comical watching him.
