I agree with the general consensus: Ainge looked good, probably will be our #2 next year. But as for Clemens, I don't think that's him being unlucky, I think what we're seeing is him being just a second late with not quite enough zip, so instead of crisp completions, you get a lot of contested balls, and any balls that get bobbled, tipped, or are not perfectly placed are prime turnover candidates. Funny thing is: I don't think Clemens has a noodle arm like Chad, but I think he's learned a little too much from Chad about being smart, being careful, instead of letting it rip. In my opinion, if he ever gets back to letting it rip, he can be a starter, but it ain't gonna happen with Sanchez the Manchez playing in front of him.
All Ainge really has to do at this point is get his fundamentals (footwork) right and he'll be fine. No problem with his size or his arm although I think he could probably put a bit less air under his deep throws. That probably comes from him throwing off his back foot which goes back to fundamentals. When he plants and throws, the man launches lasers. His arm might be at least as strong as Flacco's and just under the Cutler class of arm-cannon. We're in good shape at QB folks for the first time in decades.
I am seeing this everywhere, Ainge had an excellent preseason but that was against guys who will not be NFL players. Clemens alreayd has starting experience, there is no way Ainge is our #2. If they don't like KC they'll get another QB to be our #2. It would be disastrous to go into the season w/ Ainge as our #2.
Why? Ainge played against some of the best 2's and 3's in the league and was more successful than Clemens in similar situations. You seem to forget that both Clemens and Ainge played WITH 2's and 3's as well so the playing field was level. Clemens may have starting experience, but he's done nothing with that experience when he had the opportunity this preseason. Sometimes, its all about taking control of the moment and Clemens' time here in NY has passed.
Clemens was 3-5 as a starter and beat a playoff bound Pitt team in 2007. Despite waht we saw these last few weeks I trust KC alot more than Ainge at this point. Ainge took a nice step and maybe next year he'll be ready to be a 2 but he's definitely not right now.
2007 was a long time ago in the NFL. Sorry, but Clemens, if he had leveraged his 3-5 starting record in 2007 into winning against a rookie who only started one season at USC in 2009, I'd understand. That didn't happen. Perhaps Clemens is snakebit. Who knows man.. Junc, Clemens is what we think he is. If your own eyes can't convince you that Ainge is a better option at the 2 spot than Clemens, nothing I can post will either..
Clemens has no future with the Jets, they shouldn't waste any more snaps on him and they probably won't. He will probably keep the #2 title for awhile but as in his rookie season I expect he will be demoted to #3 at some point during the year.
I think Clemens can be a quality backup. he barely played this preseason, theree wasn't much seperation btw he and sanchez the first 2 games and he didn't play much the last 2. He's the #2, I will be absolutely shocked if Ainge is the #2. There is nothing that would shock me more at this moment than if Ainge was our #2 QB heading into the 2009 season.
Not every QB has to be a starter, I can definitely envision KC in a Pat Ryan type of role where he is a longtime backup. If he feels he can be a starter he'll go somewhere else but if he comes to the realization that he probably won't be he can have a great career as a backup to Sanchez.
Me too..Ainge just seems to be more comfortable, & confident. Which makes me feel the same way when watching the game
Woodhead rushes for a Buck Fifty including a long TD, and Sportscenter totally ignores him this morning.
No kiddin. It was Vick, Vick and more Vick. You'd think Vick was playing against Hofstra. Next to nothing on Sanchez, Ainge or Woodhead. Still no love from ESPN. Surprise, surprise...
He pretty much said he was leaving when he lost the job to Sanchez. Of course if nobody hires him he might stay but he obviously believes he can start and he will look for a team where he can compete for the job. There should be plenty of them.
Of course, the guy hasn't played in years and it was his first extended action. We have to expect that to be big new for an otherwise boring last preseason game. The only thing I take out of the last preseaon game is good health. How many times have we seen great preseason performances that last game? Rick Mirer Windrell Hayes Ataveus Cash Marquel Blackwell Brooks Bollinger Chas gessner LitteJohn Flowers Ced houston Kellen Clemens Ainge last year
Ainge > Clemens. Clemens has had his chances and has never panned out. His time is up. He'll be the #2 this year (but shouldn't be) and next year he'll be in a different uniform.
