Need? Who said he needed anything? I'd say he built it for the same reason Howard Hughes built a giant wooden airplane that never got more than thirty feet off the ground. Because he can.
Because he believes in the consequences of climate change and political instability. He's not the only one. "Eat the rich, or they'll eat you!"
I would think he could escape political instability just being on his compound in Hawaii. Building something like that, makes people think he knows something sudden will happen,
Some people, maybe. Others may just think he wants a place that can satisfy whatever pleasures he desires. Why does "political Instability" even become a part of the story? Has he ever espoused "end of the world" scenarios?
“Political instability “ was brought up by someone else, I was replying. But you make a good point . There could be other reasons he is building it. Still not sure why it would have to be that elaborate and underground, but still could be nothing to do with “prepping “.
Howard Hughes didn't build the Spruce Goose on a whim. Hughes Aircraft built that plane under contract from the U.S. government... it wasn't even his idea. It was designed and built to move large payloads across the Atlantic without getting taken out by German U-boats. Zuckerberg built a 5,000-sq-ft underground shelter with its own energy and food supplies and a blast-resistant door in Hawaii for a reason that doesn't leave much room for "why"...
Nope, not Howard's idea at all, but a challenge he took up to design and build it. And the best part? It didn't cost him a dime and his company even got paid to do it. The "why?" for Zuckerberg's subterranean refuge, or game room, is strictly a matter of opinion - he's not talking about it.
Who knows? But I would think the safest place in Hawaii if the big ever tsunami comes may very well be under the ground that surrounds it. Elaborate is in the eyes of the beholder.
