Not sure what the debate is... Is it your position that, beyond regulatory, government agencies and corporations have no undue influence on mainstream news outlets... both traditional and social media platforms?
Or maybe the app allows for all types of information that our government wants to control. Some of the best videos of the invasion of Gaza are on TikTok
No, my position is that established media is much more reliable than social media. Regulations and accountability are just components of that.
So let me get this straight, we're arguing for the ability of an oppressive communist regime (and an enemy of our state) that denies it's own citizens access to a lot of this stuff to have free access to the personal data of our citizens during a time when they are posturing somewhat aggressively against our country? Did I get all that?
I’m not talking about China. I’m talking about the unfiltered videos by Israelis and Palestinians. Also, are they posturing aggressively or are we? Anyway it’s getting too political. It’s just about government control of information. People have to choose to use the app to suffer the negative consequences you speak about. I don’t use I don’t suffer the consequences. How is China an enemy? They are our largest trading partner and hold the second highest amount of our debt. Please back up your claim of China being an enemy.
How ever could I have gotten that idea? Your are purposely obtuse in all political arguments, btw. https://www.reuters.com/world/expect-more-turbulence-us-china-2024-2023-12-20/
One article from western media doesn’t prove your point. China and the USA are the largest trading partners in the world. I don’t really see how that makes us enemies. Remember we saber rattle as well. Forcing the sale of TikTok is a part of that.
The US got greedy as is the model for our nation and allowed a gigantic global rival to get as deep into their pockets as anyone on the globe, and realized too late. Yes the sabre rattling goes both ways, don't assume I am defending the US just because I consider the CCP to be an enemy of state. It is not just TikTok that is being used as an intelligence arm of the CCP, it is the mobile hardware as well. Most US-based F500 corporations have banned Chinese-manufactured devices from their networks due to blatant security exploits. It's like the technological version of the Cold War and people aren't even aware., Or don't want to be. We are so conditioned to accepting all of the intrusive agreements on our mobile shock collars that people are fine with giving it to the CCP.
They steal virtually all of our intellectual property, military grade or not. I wonder why TikTok algorithms are so different in China? Kids see science discoveries, athletic excellence, and none of the trash that kids see here. Must be coincidence I guess.
The ban is bullshit plain and simple. Our government needs to stop banning stuff and we need to stop letting them. Or else we will end up like China
Maybe just be a better parent and don't let your kids use it. This is the part of the growth of the nanny state. Weak parents pushing parenting onto the schools and the government. The ban is bullshit. Now instead of a Chinese company getting all that information, Zuckerberg, Fink or Tepper will get it. Those men have far more consequence on the functioning of our democracy than a Chinese company. I'm a hell of a lot more concerned with them than I am with Huwaei or however you spell it.
I don't use it myself, but it has been used to push many political narratives that run counter to US mainstream media. That's why republicans and democrats both want to ban it. I don't have any social media but Linkedin. I think that's the best way to go.
