We'll see how that pans out in reality. I really can't think of a case ever where a player signed as a free agent with a team on the cheap and despite better offers because it was "best for the family" or whatever other reason. Maybe I'm wrong, I really don't know for sure, but I believe that once the $$$ start getting floated he'll be on the first plane out of town.
When you don't expect to be competitive for a Super Bowl, you have even more incentive to play as many as young guys as possible. Playing the youth is the best time to find out what you really have. A 4th-5th round rookie RB combined with Powell would be more than sufficient to tide the Jets into next year.
That could be true but hypothetical numbers (I have no idea what his value will be or can be or the minimum is): Team A offers 1 yr/ 1.4 million We offer 1 yr/ 1.2 million it's not outrageous he comes here. Now if Team offers 1 yr, 6 million We offer 1 yr, 1.2 million, I 100% agree with you, he bolts for the 6 million. But we are a team that needs every last penny of cap so a .2 million of difference could be huge for us
If he's the same Bradshaw that the Giants got in previous years, I agree with consensus that he'd be a fine addition at the right price. However, the bad wheel gives me some pause - it's the second offseason he's had a procedure done on it. OTOH, it might reduce his contract price. We'll see though. Gotta love the offseason
I agree with you, but things can't just get us through next season. This is New York. Rex Ryan is on the hot seat and this is Idzik's first year taking over this mess. Rex Ryan, the fan base, and the media are searching for an answer and will not acept another losing season. Nor will they accept a mediocre year. Talent needs to be put on that field right now. I do understand that younger players need to have their moment to shine, but they still can. We NEED a breakout RB to understand if Sanchez is done for good or could be rehabilitated in one last effort. Not only that, but this is Marty's first year here as OC. He's not only gonna want the right pieces in place, but he is in the spotlight also. He is now working with the worst offense in the NFL and will look like a fool to put out another offense that is just god awful. He is going to be in search for a breakout back and something tells me Bradshaw's name is written all over it.
By the fans and media not accepting another losing season, do you mean that they will continue taking to the forums and blogs to moan and groan? I doubt the Jets brass is too concerned what the fans and media think. Rex knows he's on the hot seat. He has to save his own job. Ahmad Bradshaw won't do that for him. I don't really like the idea of bringing in Bradshaw who is injury prone. Greene isn't the answer, but I'd rather have him back then to bring in Bradshaw.
I'd rather have neither. Their has to be someone available in the draft or FA that isn't ancient and/or injury prone and is well suited for Morningwoods WCO.
Rex hasn't 'ever' wanted McKnight to be a running back, why would he change his tone on that next year? The only time McKnight ever had any real number of sustained carries was that dopey final regular season game against the Bills where Brunell just handed it off all day and we pounded them into submission.
Bradshaw will be 27 next year. I think we definitely should bring him in if his health and salary permits. Bradshaw, Powell, McKnight/draftee would be a solid backfield imo. I don't think Greene will be a good fit in the WCO he's probably gone.
If he was going to play for "vet minimum" or "dirt cheap", why wouldn't he just play for the Giants? I have a hard time believing that if he went to the Giants and said, "I'll play for vet minimum", the Giants would tell him hell no.
McKnight gets his shot with Powell. Shonn is not the guy for MM. I think McKnight will be a first half guy, and Powell the closer.
