Pete Carroll.. jk but seriously where's Lou Holtz as an option? I would vote for him... jk again. It's Parcells.
HC is a feeling no? I dig the Parcells hype. The Jets won all of ONE game the season before he arrived. And, voila, the Jets have a 9-7 record and credibility, followed by a 12-4 season that is easily the second best Jets season ever. But the next season was only sentimentally good, like Rex Ryan's 8-8 two seasons ago. In the end, Parcells kinda fucked us short term. The failed hand-off to Belichick, the iffy drafting, the reliance on older players vs. younger, more athletic ones really charted a course that led to the under-talented team MacCagnan somewhat addressed this offseason. Parcells was all about Parcells. The Jets were a prop to him. I'll take 1998 but two of his three seasons were non-playoff seasons. Ultimately, in 1998 he failed as a coach. In 1999, he failed as a GM. And then he bailed.
That might have had something to do with our Pro Bowl QB getting hurt (FOR THE SEASON) on the third play of the year. We went 8-8 with Ray Lucas who was a special teams player, not even a backup QB. This is imbecilic.
At the time, there was significant criticism of Parcells because he was going into the season without a credible backup, and, unfortunately, that Achilles heal bit us. So, NOT actually imbecilic because I stated that he failed as a GM: no GM should go into a season without a credible backup at a critical position. We had Rick Mirer and Ray Lucas (who had ZERO experience). Again, I appreciate 1997, although he made a terrible call in the Detroit game that cost us the playoffs, 1998, and 1999 was Meh. And then he bailed, leaving us with Al Groh. If his name wasn't Parcells, you'd probably not have as favorable opinion of his tenure.
LMAO - he went from worst team in the league to 9-7 overnight with journeymen free agent signings. He was a miracle worker.
It's Michaels. He took a team that was horrible in the 70s, stacked it with talent, and made it a SB contender. The lack of a tarp by that cheating dog Shula cost the team a SB. The 82 team was closer to a SB than the 98 team that had to beat a better Broncos team on the road. The Jets were a better team than the Fish in 82. Then the FO blew it by firing Michaels. I am convinced Michaels wins a SB with the 80s Jets had he remained HC. Parcells was a great coach, but there are too many hinges wrong with his tenure. First and foremost, he quit before finishing the job. I hate a quitter. Them he left the team in disarray. The Jets lost Belichick under Parcells, grow coached for one year, and Parcells would not remain as coach even though Woody offered him a blank check to stay. Then he went on to coach Dallas. That was slimy. He also put the Jets in cap hell by signing a bunch of vets to big contracts just before he bailed. Lastly, his drafts were bad.
That's ONE season. And, clearly, the team that lost 15 games wasn't as bad as its record, talent-wise. Again, having lived through those seasons, I get how great it was to be a Jets fan again. And the 12-4 year was as dominant a Jets team as I had ever witnessed. But the rest of his time here fizzled like a wet fart. Just sayin' I'm not sure one great season out of three is all that spectacular. But, I guess we ARE talking about Jets head coaches, so, sure it's hard to find anything better or even as good. But, then you could say the first two years of Ryan were just as good or better.
To compare Rex to Parcells is just wrong. Rex used someone else's team and Parcells took a last place team and created a playoff winning one. Rex has no clue on how to pick players, unless you count using every 1st round pick on DBs or DLs, and half of them are not worth the pick. Williams, Milliner, Coples, Pryor.
What is with people? No, I wasn't kidding YOU because I don't know you. This is my opinion and just because you don't agree with it doesn't make me a troll or anything else. To be sure, you don't have to agree with my opinions, but they are presented for everyone's amusement.
Wait a minute. Now we can't even compare Rex Ryan with Saint Bill Parcells?! GTFOH Bill Parcells actually took someone else's team, just like EVERY coach does, and created a single-season playoff team. Parcells didn't take all new players and create a dynasty. The Jets made the playoffs ONCE under Parcells. So, I doubt he'd be in Canton based solely on his tenure with the Jets. And, really, Parcells drafting?! His first draft was pathetic. His second draft, with 4 first rounders was pretty good--Ellis, Abraham, Pennington, Becht--but really unremarkable beyond that. Parcells, IMO, not the best GM. I'd take Mac over him.
