When I said that Sam was our Matt Stafford last year...I was comparing his situation...not his playing style. The Jets are prone to fuck up Sam's tenure...just like Stafford's in Detroit.
I think 50% of Sam's problems stem from poor OL (there was a stretch of about 3 games when Beachum came back that OL played well, Jets scored 34 points those 3 games) & a lack of a true #1.....go to receiver (he had his best games when D. Thomas played). Also think how much better he played when he had a capable TE. SAM had the best QBR in the NFL when throwing to TE. (Fact Stated during a game) So all & all I feel he is definitely our FQB.
I think Sam is top 15 qb. Guy who can make all of the throws, just does not have the magic around hm. The front office, and coaching staff are screwing him again. Per Gases press conference I can not see Bell back at running back next yr. Bell picked up a lot of Blitzs , is outstanding receiver out of the backfield, and is a patient runner. Bell did not loose all of his speed in one missed season. So we are going to remove a superstar from our team. Next we allow Robbie Anderson become a free agent on a yr where he is the #2 best available wr. Sam seemed to click with him. If you let Anderson walk as well. Sam has no real returning offensive weapons .
He has the potential to be the FQB. Won't happen without an FOL, FWR, FRB, FHC.FDB, FLB. We already have a FDC.
