I have to disagree. They have the best QB in the whole game, the best receiving TE in the whole game, the best playmaking WR in the game....and average running backs. In championship games you lean on your talent and if you lose, you tip your cap to the opponent because they beat your best guys. Besides, they averaged 4.5 yards per carry on the season. So it's not like they were pounding the rock in the 1st half with ease, it was just slightly above what they've done for the whole season. In the moment it was probably not even noticeable
They didn’t need anything more than an average running back. They were running the ball at will the entire game. They had back to back three and outs where they ran the ball once for a solid gain of four yards on first down. They also went three and out in overtime on three straight passes. The Bengals adjusted and Mahomes was struggling to complete passes in the second half. Reid didn’t adjust to what the Bengals did and how his QB was playing.
