Vince Young would be an interesting option, I doubt they sign him though, but imo he's better than a lot of QB's in the league.
he only played 2 games. I think he's better than Sanchez, but do the Jets view Young the way a lot of us do?
For Veterans, Upside is the Key When looking at the potentially available free agent veteran QBs, the question to ask is not the minimum level at which somebody might perform nor even the level at which they are expected to perform. The question is, if the stars align, what is the best level at which they might reasonably perform on the upside. If the answer is something less than "better than average NFL quarterback for more than one year", there is absolutely no point in bringing them in as you might as well roll the dice on a rookie or grit your teeth and deal with Sanchez for another year. Among the potentially available vets, the only ones I see who MIGHT perform at a better than average level are: Matt Flynn Kevin Kolb Carson Palmer I would have thrown Alex Smith into the mix before he got sent to KC. Garard proved to be below average when he was healthy and 5 years younger. I think Moore has had enough opportunity to show something and hasn't, ditto for Quinn. Please don't even bring up Cassel. Maybe there's a backup out there that I've overlooked. I'm not counting tradeable assets like Cousins or Foles because I think the ideas is to get a free (or cheap) look at something that may turn out OK rather than to further mortgage the future.
i agree with the you . i would leave flynn off the list though since he would have to be traded for. but you are right on with the rest of it
I still think Kyle Orton deserves serious consideration. He showed success, but more recently was scapegoated by no nothing Tebots for Denver's poor opening in 2011. He finished that year 2-1 with a Kansas City squad that showed the next year it had nothing. he is healthy and in the middle of his career. He would be a substantial upgrade over sanchez.
Maybe I'm being overly optimistic on Flynn, but I've been hoping if we get deeper into the offseason and Seattle still has him on the roster they will eventually realize they don't want to pay a backup QB that kind of money and look to trade him for very little. I would not send them anything more than a conditional 5th or worse.
Kevin Kolb vs Brady Quinn vs Tebow vs Sanchez vs David Garrard, Hbo hard knocks The Jets pt 2 battle of the worst QBS ever
no way we give anything for flynn and have to take his contract. vet minimum guys for no draft picks is the only way to go this year. unless something crazy happens and a 3rd would get us kirk cousins
I'd love to have Cousins, but no way the Skins trade him with the injury to RG3. Flynn doesn't really excite me, and Orton would be a great stop gap guy who would no doubt beat out Sanchez in TC. My dream scenario would be a trade for Foles. I'm not saying he's a sure fire starting caliber QB, but I think he's shown promise and could be a long term answer as opposed to all these other scrubs we've been talking about. My other sleeper is Vince Young.
