Beacuse there has been speculation that Giants were interested in Rhodes...obviously if they sign Rolle trading Rhodes to the Giants would not be an option.
Also, there was some talk that we may have considered Rolle as a replacement for Rhodes. Thus, if Rolle signs elsewhere, that leaves us in a tougher spot to fill that FS void.
I'm not as high on Rolle as many others are. I realize he has a good rep league wide and is highly talented. But when you watch him play, he always seems late on rotation and a step too slow. He's a nice upgrade and fit for the Giants, but he isn't worth what his new contract will likely be. IMO, when they are both at their best, and they are both highly inconsistent, Rhodes is a much better player than Rolle. I'm ok w/ moving Rhodes if the value is there..but I don't view getting Rolle and moving Rhodes as a clear upgrade in anything other than acquiring more draft picks or another player.
I agree with this. I've never been a big Rolle fan. I'd much prefer Otogwe if we're going to replace Rhodes. The biggest appeal of Rolle is that we're free to sign him without restrictions, and then we could possibly get compensation for Rhodes, making virtually a lateral move and picking up picks in the process.
I think we'll trade Rhodes and draft a Safety. 29) Damian Williams 2nd) Eric Norwood Rhodes pick) Morgan Burnett 5) BPA DL 6) BPA OL 7) P/FB
Rhodes had 5 INTs, 2 sacks, and 2 forced fumbles in 2007. Cromartie had 10 picks in 2007. Braylon Edwards had 16 touchdowns in 2007. If only it were 2007...
One thing worth mentioning about Rhodes is that when he's FORCED to play aggressive; In other words when his only option is to play the LOS and blitz...he is an elite level player. It's when the CS gets too infatuated w/ his size/athleticism/closing speed and constantly places him in center field that he gets passive, soft and conservative. If the CS effectively recognizes this and Rhodes sticks around...he could instantly revert back to his 2006 level of performance.
Cimini suggests that after Rolle visits the Giants, he might swing by Florham Park. Could be something to keep an eye on. http://www.nydailynews.com/blogs/jets/2010/03/pick-and-rolle.html Sounds more like he's just speculating more than anything else though.
Wy not just sced. a meeting in our NO-NAME Stadium, Giants can meet with him from 12pm to to 1pm & The Jets can meet with him from 1:30 to 2:30pm.
I liked Rolle before his contract demands became known and Atogwe received the lowest tender. At this point, more power to the Giants.
Agreed, Rolle is a good player not for 40 million tho. We can probably get Otogwe for 10-15 million less. As long as the Fins or Pats don't get Rolle I'll be happy
You're talking about implications. Any safety movement will have implications on your team if you are trying to trade your safety. Would there be a thread for every safety movement?
I'd rather see the Jets go after Atogwe than Rolle, but I'm not going to be pissed if the Jets sign him.
Maybe.....and maybe the Jets and the Gmen have something cooking behind the scenes too......scuttlebut was that the Gmen were pretty interested in Rhodes if he might become available........
