I’m very confident that if we are as bad as it seems, Gase will get fired at the end of the year. If not? Then I guess it doesn’t matter as we’re likely fucked anyway and everyone gets to make there own choice if they still want to support this team.
I do agree that a coaching change could possibly save Darnold but at this point for me, being in position to draft Lawrence is the most important for the future of this franchise and keeping Gase for the remainder of the season is the best chance at that happening. I love Sam and still think he has potential and likely will resurrect his career once freed from Gase but it likely won’t be with the Jets. The culture will change once they start winning which won’t be this year whether Gase is canned now or not. Very few if any from this roster will likely even be on the team when(if) this ever gets turned around. Just as always with free agents they will go where the money is. I can’t give any credence to a FA not considering the Jets cause they didn’t fire the HC in week 5 the previous season.
I understand and respect your perspective. I agree that Lawrence is a better QB prospect than Sam was and may be a better fit for the Jets regardless of whom the HC is. I agree that keeping Gase is probably the best way to secure a chance at getting the #1 pick and Lawrence, although I will hate like hell seeing the Jets laughed at and ridiculed the rest of the season. It will also concern me if Douglas had the option of firing him and didn't either out of loyalty or because he thinks Gase can turn things around. That's the one area where I don't have a lot of trust in Douglas. If he keeps Gase, then I'm not sure that Lawrence will help all that much, and it could be 4-5 years before the Jets are ready to really competitive versus a year or two, even if 90% of Douglas' draft picks and FA moves pan out. I'm not sure that I agree that there are probably very few players who are presently on the roster who will be in a year or two. They have some good young players on the DL and the D. I think the offense, aside from Becton, and maybe Herndon, Mims, Perine, Wesco, and Clark will be totally new. We have seen repeatedly that money isn't the be-all end-all for all FAs. Some have refused to sign the Jets because they have been so bad. Some have refused because they didn't want to live in NY/NJ. Many, if not most of the FAs that have been signed (with the exception of Douglas's this year) were older, end of their career types who still got huge contracts and long-term deals from Mac. At the moment, I can't think of one really good, young FA he signed except Crowder. If this team finishes 0-16 or 1-15, I can't imagine any good young FA wanting to sign here even if they were offered $3 million more a season than the next highest offer they received. The best players want to win. They want to go to and win a SB. They aren't just content with making a lot of money and putting in their time. Those are the types we don't want, that don't fit the culture that Douglas is trying to instill, but I believe will be mostly the only types we'll be able to sign, especially if Gase is still the HC next season. If they stick with Gase through the season, there are no guarantees that they fire him at the end of the season.
Adam Gase is a malignant narcissist sociopath, just like Woody’s other best friend Impeach this motherfucker!
Yea there are certainly those that either don’t want to play in NY metro area or only want to play for a team that can contend but those wouldn’t be options whether the Jets win 1 game with Gase or 4 games say Gregg Williams. I haven’t given up on Sam’s talent but I’ve pretty much given up on him reaching it here with the Jets and really hate the idea of him learning a 3rd offense in 4 years. So to me the most important thing for this season is securing that top pick, which amazingly enough we’ve only done twice before and of course in typical Jets luck there was no QB worthy of the pick in either of those years. Well that is unlikely to be the case this year. While of course there is no guarantee of getting the first pick with or without Gase I think we can all agree the chances are better with Gase. Plus with Gase’s ego I’d really love to see him have to live with a 1 win team on his resume and don’t want him to have the out of see it wasn’t my fault the Jets still suck without me which I’m pretty sure they still would.
It amazes me that a relatively young offensive coach runs such an antiquated system. You'd think he was either over 60 and hadn't coached in 15 years or knew nothing about offenses.
I just read on yardbarker that AG future is secure... I swear, if that is true CJ and JD should be strong up because according to the article this is the reason why..... Essentially, Christopher Johnson and the Jets decision-makers believe that firing Gase would be harmful to Sam Darnold. Really... I mean really. Never mind the fact that Darnold has significantly regressed both statistically and mechanically during his time under Gase. Never mind the fact that the Jets, for the second straight year under Gase, have the league’s worst offense. Never mind the general incompetency that Gase has shown, particularly in regard to developing his quarterback. The Jets believe that Adam Gase is helping Sam Darnold and that it would be counterproductive to his development to switch coaches in the middle of the season. 7-12 record 32 in pts per game (12.3 that is, believe it or not down from last years whopping 17.3 32 in total yrds per game 31 passing....
That's what happens when you have a top 3 QB of all time run your offense (aka, changing your plays at the line). You think you have it right and everyone else has it wrong.
It blows my mind he won't let Sam call audibles unless he says so. That's the only time your offense works you idiot!!
