Wow are we really so cheap that we have to wait after week 1!?

I mean... We're playing Baltimore on WK1... not exactly an easy team...

Yeah I was thinking the same thing, we could use him against Baltimore

They probably figure Taylor can handle most of one game, but would like more depth to keep from wearing him out over the course of multiple games. I can see the logic in waiting so it's not guaranteed salary. The guy is probably gone when Pace comes back anyway.

    A. Thomas is a luxury...they'd have to wait until after week 1. Also, it gives a few of the younger guys a chance to play--We have an elite defense, and if someone steps up we don't need to spend the $/roster spot on Thomas.

The Jets are being prudent, not cheap. Why pay a guy for a full year if you're only going to use him for a few games? Jason Taylor isn't 50, he can play the entire game against the Ravens.

Cheap more than prudent. I agree with not paying AT for the entire season when he will most likely play a couple of games. But cheap considering he should be in practice ASAP to start picking things up. Its 3 years since his days in BMore and I am sure Rex has a lot changed in the game plan by now.

He needs playing time with the 1's to get in sync. Vet min, guaranteed isn't a hefty price to pay especially if I'm RWJ. AT could also stay on the roster for depth deeper into the season.

    Am I missing something?

    Taylor/Westerman?????

Or is it possibly a longer recovery than they're letting on?

I'd consider A. Thomas a luxury as much as I considered Lito Sheppard a luxury. I think he's a bum at this point, but there's always that homer side of me that thinks Rex can 'bring the player out of him'.

I can see how waiting benefits Woody, but with no cap I can't see how it benefits the team.

I look at it this way: Dude is ten years in the league, four years from his last ProBowl, and no one has sniffed at him since he was cut. He also took a whopping pile of cash from the Patriots and should have set himself up for a nice comfy ever-after. If he's anywhere within 40 pounds of playing shape, I'd be surprised. Unfortunately, injuries sometimes force you to sign a guy whose only redeeming quality is that he knows the playbook well enough that he can at least suck in the proper position on the field.

You sure about that? Missing Ed Reed and a corner is worse than Revis, Pace, and Holmes?

The Ravens are missing more than one corner. That entire secondary is banged up.

Holmes was a luxury move. Sanchez will be fine throwing passes to J-Co, Edwards, and Keller.

...and I already posted what I think about the Pace situation in another thread.

Ed Reed, missing their best corner on an already thin unit and now Stallworth is out 8 weeks.

You can't really say that we are "missing" Holmes, since we've never even had him in a regular season game yet.

I agree with this 100%. If it ws a day before the first game, I could see not signing him for salary purposes. Two weeks of practice could make a big difference, especially at home vs a tough AFC opponent on opening day, and it's not like AT is going to demand a massive salary.
