Signing Thomas was no small matter. It allows them flexibility in their defense; but, perhaps overlooked, it allows them flexibility in their draft. His salary, while hefty now, will be average and manageable in two years. And it isn't like they (or we) are hurting for cap space. What are we looking to do, sit on that money and smile warmly that we have a comfy nest egg? It's there to be spent. I'll be honest, I really did hold out hope that we would swoop in at the last moment and steal the guy away.
