i don't know how random it is. davis confirms hi interest in the link below(thre others obviously will not comment on the job): http://www.charlotte.com/mld/charlotte/15837440.htm
They say in the article that they based it on the fact that he probably wants a pay raise, and had been an assistant in the ACC before. His recruiting in the big east is much better than anything he could do at UNC. Duke got a committ from a 4 star DT last year and it was treated like they landed a 5 star QB, at WVU they pulled Slaton and a 5 star RB in Jason Gwaltney in the same class (though Gwaltney was a flameout). Not to mention, it'd take years to do much of anything at NC, WVU is at it's peak right now. He could wait for an actually enticing job to open.
Apparently the writer doesn't realize Rodriguez signed an extension in June that would keep him in Morgantown through 2012. He makes $1 million this year and will receive increases each year down the road. No way he goes to North Carolina.
I think he or any big time coach could recruit better at UNC. Um wasn't in the ACC when mack brown was HC but he recruited top talent to Chapel Hill year in and year out. His only problem was coaching.
Here's an article from today that says the heels will try to get Rodriguez: http://www.journalnow.com/servlet/S...id=1149191329496&path=!sports&s=1037645509200
Uh, the ACC is miserable. 5-18 against top 25 teams combined. BC, Wake, and Maryland are at the top of the Atlantic, and not one of them could stay within 20 of WVU. GT is a one man show, VT is just bleh. Miami and FSU should give up football, the Noles are one more disappointment away from no bowl game this year, and Miami shouldn't even bother.
It's really frustrating as expansion was supposed to help football but instead we have a worse football conf and basketball was hurt by adding the 3 teams.
BC is what we expected, a decent middle of th conf type team except the conf is so bad they are a top team in the ACC this year.
I don't know if Rodriguez could recruit better at UNC. He would have to contend with admissions for one. Lets face it, UNC is a lot better academically than WVU. Also, WVU is near some pretty good football states like PA and OH.
I disagree about the basketball statement. BC is a good team year in and year out and VT is certainly up and coming. 4th in the ACC first year and beat Duke. Last year got screwed by a hope and a prayer against Duke and lost like 12 games by a total of 9 points wink. This year we have 3 very solid seniors, a slashing wing, size under the bucket and some decent young guns. Look out this is the year we get into the dance.

Basketball wise the league is still near the top(last year was a down yar but i will be at or near the top this year) but there are too many teams. priror to the latst expansion every team played a home and home w/ every other team but now that's not possible and it hurts the conference.
Yeah honestly, why would he go to a football wasteland when he has a nice cushy job where he is right now? He's a really good coach, he's reeling in some very good prospects, and some of that BCS money is going to be coming in his direction in a big way soon if he keeps it up.
Some guys like new challenges. he'd move up in class in comnference(right now the ACC stinks but it won't for long), carolina has incredible facilities making it easy to recruit and turning the heels back into a top 5-10 program would be a big feather in his cap. WVU has always been good while the heels are good for a few years then suck for a few years, if he could get them consistently good then it leaves a bigger legacy- not to mention the pay would be better.
Click the link for an article whr Rodriguez discusses the rumors. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=2643771 He's most likly just using it to get mroe money but clearly he could have said he's not interested and put the rumors to bed but he didn't do that.
