I think that's a fair assessment. I think Lowery has more natural talent than Poteat, but he's also pretty green. He's getting a trial by fire though, so let's hope he continues to improve.

In the nickel, if we have a star at corner in his place, he'd be dangerous. I'm definitely on board with that.

This is a good thread and praise for Elam is thoroughly merited. I will say we must really encourage the guy and massage his ego for the part he has played in the last two games. Confidence is a huge part of any players game and as we all know winning breeds confidence breeds winning.

Eric Smith cut, Elam works on being a student of the game and fixes those nuances, then the secondary is set for 4 more years.

And I said for the longest that Elam shoulda been the starter over Eric Smith.

Smith should stay where Drew Coleman is currently, the bench. Coleman and Smith suck

they'll be cut. They either are done on their contracts or have one more year remaining.

Elam has been making a lot of heads up plays of late- I'm very impressed with how far he's come.

But make no mistake, part of our problem in pass coverage is related to him (not only him, but he's part of it)....

We're playing him closer to the line, and he doesn't hesitate in running up to make a play, but it leaves some seams open...

He's definitely become the best we've got though, and he's absolutely getting better

The forced fumble was awesome, but IMO his best play was when they gave Chris Johnson a pass in the flat when nobody was within about 5 yards of him and Elam just rolled up and tattooed him in the open field. Easily saved like 20 yards and was an overlooked play on that drive.

I gotta be honest. When the season began I was convinced Kenyon Coleman was our biggest weakness. Then I realized he's actually pretty above average. So I then decided our biggest weakness was ST. Then Hodges and Feely came in and everything has been fine since. So then I decided that Abram Elam is our worst starter. Well now lately he's been doing great. Every time I decided on a biggest weakness for the team, that area starts to really improve.

So now which area do I think we can improve on the most? (Even though we are decently ahead of the average tab in every catagory imo)

I think overall the WR corps could be stepping it up for bigger plays and more yards. However I am not dissing them. I have been completely satisfied with them this year.

Abram Elam is the product of good coaching, whether you want to believe it or not.

what you have with elam is a playmaker- a football player- not sure he knows all the ins and outs of the position or is "technically" sound but I see him make plays and is a game changer in the fact that he has ability to create turnovers. I think we take the risk of him blowing an assignment once in a while because the reward is way greater then the risk.

Elam is shutting my mouth. He was always a big hitter and stout vs. the run but stunk it up in coverage big time; however he has not been a liability at all lately and on top of that is making plays all over the field. Kudos to this guy.

Hopefully his recent gameplay signals the end to the "Eric Smith Experiment." Smith and Coleman can ride the bus home together at the end of the season.

For all his improvement playing the run, getting after the QB and playing in intermediate-short zones, Elam sure did suck ass today...

His tackling was God awful, his angles were reminiscent of his 2007 performances, and he had his head in the clouds when asked to play a deep zone....

The one attempted 'tackle' on the denver RB where he just bent over and stood there stood out to me as the worst NFL tackling technique I've seen outside of our man Gholston in a while...

And tackling has been Elam's forte of late

3 plays were his fault, 2 resulting in TDs.

they figured him out that he was the problem in the secondary and was exposed.

We was 14 pts on the board today. We need another safety to compliment Rhodes.

Wow, we sure jinxed the motherfucker last week didn't we? I'm hoping he'll get an earful and rebound from this...I was really starting to like how he was progressing, too.

Aside from him, who else do we have to put in that safety spot? Eric Smith? Yikes. How has Barrett been playing in that position lately?

    Barrett is mediocre too.

If anything let him be the centerfielder and Rhodes can cover the TE's.

Would Stu Schwiegert really have been worse than Elam and E. Smith? And whatever happened to Cam Worrel?

Ask yourself this question, Is Abram BETTER than last season? I think even the staunchest critic of Abe will have to agree, a massive improvement.
Now ask yourself this question, is he the finished product? No, but hes getting there.
Everyone it seems is looking for someone to blame for yesterdays loss.
I think the players are actually OK, I suspect that sometimes the CS trys too hard sometimes nad becomes to clever for its own good.
If I had to pick on one DB yesterday, it would be Law. Theres only so much you can do with your football brain, sometimes you just ned to be quicker regardless of how much knowledge you have.
    Why isn't Lowery starting?
