Please forgive my remedial understanding of these things… but how does Rodgers possibly end up on another team , if we don’t cut him until June. Or if the other option is a trade, who’s taking on what he’s owed.? Seems like it’s jets or retirement as the most likely?

I do. Definitely. He's better than every other available option (by a lot). The only other (slightly) possible option that I might prefer would be if we got Flores (HC), McNown (OC) and Darnold (QB) as a package. But if Darnold was dumb enough to come back here, it would almost make me not want him.
We could do worse on the field. Just don't think he's worth what he brings off the field at this point. Too many distractions and if you have to decide between him or GW that's an easy call

could be just like Russell Wilson this year. Jets cut him so he signs somewhere for league minimum since the Jets are still paying him it worked out OK for both the Broncos and Steelers
They would cut him in Feb/March and designate him a post June 1 cut. He can "sign" with another team, but technically nothing is official until June 1. Most people dont realize that when you designate a post June 1 cut, you carry the cap until June 1 and dont get the immediate relief.
I think a competent confident coach would be looking beyond a single season with a couple of has beens.

The Jets biggest problem this season was coaching especially after Coach Saleh was fired after week 5. Aaron Rodgers can still play. He can still move around enough, he can throw it and he played through this miserable Jets season so the love of the game, the competitive spirit still burns inside him. WE WANT AARON RODGERS!!! No, he can sign with anyone as soon as new season opens, even with June 1 designation. June 1 designation just means the dead CAP hit will get split into two years instead of all in 1, that's all.
